Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket

Mountain Hardwear has built a legacy by making the lightest, toughest gear in our closets, designed to thrive in the most demanding environments on Earth. The Ghost Whisperer UL Jacket pushes the boundaries further than we thought possible, clocking in at an industry-leading 6.7 ounces. The Ghost Whisperer utilizes down with the highest fill rating on the market, at 1000-fill, making it extremely light and compressible for a barely-there feeling, whether on our back or in our pack. The DWR treatment protects the down from passing showers or light snow, and the ultralight nylon ripstop is exceptionally breathable, so we stay cool while we're conquering towering peaks.

Can't cinch the waist

My only problem with this jacket is the lack of an adjustable drawcord at the waist. Although all openings on the jacket are elastic, given the sizing the waist is too wide and I can feel drafts coming up through the bottom. Probably an ounce shaving decision. Otherwise it is everything that I need and expect from a UL puffy.

Great mid layer puffy

Awesome piece of gear. It’s lighter than a mouse fart, but warm as a Marshall pufffy combined. This jacket was purchased with climbing Kilimanjaro in mind and will be bringing it with in January. The only other puffy that compares is the whisperer/2 which trades a little down loft for a slightly tougher shell fabric.

Good Jacket with One Problem

This jacket is so light and warm, and I love it, but I wish it could cinch shut at the waist. I had to order a size up because I have big shoulders, but now the jacket lets out a lot of my heat because it isn't cinched tight around my waist properly!

Light, warm, and fits well

Had this jacket a few weeks now and am blown away. Pack it anywhere, sleep in it, wear it out to dinner, it’ll do it all.

Best Lightest Jacket around

I purchased this jacket as a replacement to my 800 fill Ghost Whisper. I've had several of these jackets over the years and I absolutely love them! I love the grey color of this jacket in the UL now with 1000 Fill. Fit is great and it is ridiculously light! I'd give it 5 stars but my only complaint I have is they removed the waist cinch cord from this jacket, which in my opinion was a big mistake since it helps keep the jacket tight at the waist and prevents the cold wind from finding its way into your coat. Jacket is too roomy at the waist. Also I know weight is an issue here, but a chest zippered pocket would have been bomb as well.

One of the best pieces os gear I own

Love it! I just used it on the John muir Trail. This coat is a crucial no brainer and one of my favorite pieces of gear to save weight without sacrificing quality and performance.

Absolutely love it !

This is my dream super light down jacket and I wear it more than any other during the colder months. I thought the Ghost Whisperer was good until I got one of these and now I only wear the UL. It's so light it almost feels like you're not wearing anything, and at the same time its seems much warmer than similar jackets that are heavier. It's almost like an illusion because when you put it on you warm up quickly yet you don't feel like you're wearing a jacket! It's amazing and there's no excuse not to carry it with you on every mission. It's so small and light. It's more like carrying a wind shell but so much warmer ~!

Best quality as it stands

Mountain Hardwear is the company that you can rely on its quality. I got Ghost Whisperer UL for my hiking trip to Alpina trail in Swiss. Yes, it is light, warm, comfortable and sleek in a way. Good 1000 fill-power jacket is not easy to find especially when it comes to the point that you need very light & compact jacket in your back pack or on you during the long hike in cold weather. The upper arm has enough room to be comfortable with the inner layer(s) and yet the wrist fits tight enough to slip quickly into wind/rain proof layer. Since this one does not look too puffy, I think I can wear in the city too in cold season. I should take this with me to my Korea/Japan trip in the winter. I am very glad that I added this jacket to my Mountain Hardwear vest that I have used years with 100% satisfaction. All be with me for many years!

The lightest!

This jacket is super warm and weighs nothing! It is sleek and the accents give it an extra smooth touch. I liked that it is basic and does not have any extra or unneccessary features. The only thing missing is a zipper pull on the inside of one of the pockets to make it easier to pack into its own pocket. Though the lack of this zipper pull demonstrates the commitment to making this jacket as light as possible without sacrificing functionality or quality.
