Great fit and performance, could use design changes.

I bought this from another outdoor store and have only used it once as the final hardshell wind stop layer. It worked beautifully in Utah in January for hiking when the days are pretty cold and windy. It has a very generous cut, and the XL allowed me to wear a baselayer, fleece, and /or puffy underneath. Although all three were maybe a bit snug, they were comfortable for hiking. This is a more boxy cut, which I wanted. I bought this to supplement an older DryQ Elite that I absolutely love, but it is a slim fit and makes layering in cold weather difficult. I also love the 3 layer feel and the recycled content! I have not tested the waterproofing in heavy rain yet but I'm sure it is great. I am taking off one star for a couple of reasons. One the pit zips are entirely wrong, in my opinion. The zip from the bottom up to your pit which means if you want to air out your armpit you have to have the entire side unzipped and the opening is huge. I would prefer to have just under my arms unzipped a few inches compared to the whole side. I think if hiking in heavy rain, this is going to be a problem. Or I could stick to my old jacket if it's warm enough. It also lacks a small chest pocket, which is nice for lip balm or ear buds. I will use my jacket primarily for hiking, and the pack hip belt makes the side pockets challenging to access. Also this jacket is function over form. I have the black and it is pretty blah. My old DryQ Elite had reflective tape, nicer zipper pulls, and a different color offset for the rubber around the zippers for asthetics. This jacket has basic paracord pulls, and nothing contrasting anywhere on the jacket, which might make it nice for use in a more casual setting. I realize performance is the key, but some design changes could be incorporated for the cost of this jacket. I'm keeping this jacket because the fit and style of this jacket allow me to layer in cold weather the way that I want and still be comfortable, which has been hard to find.
