Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 Tent

Trusted by many a mountaineer over the years, the Mountain Hardwear Trango 2 is a 4-season tent with quality components and materials free of flame-retardant chemicals. We can secure the Trango 2 against winter weather and high alpine conditions with the durable fly and bathtub-style floor, guy-out points with self-equalizing guy-out anchors on side walls, quality DAC tent stakes, and vestibule snowflaps to seal out spindrift. Two windows and zippered vents limit condensation in cold conditions and let us catch some breeze in mild mountain weather. Daytime and nighttime visibility is great inside the tent, thanks to a triple-reinforced UVX window that brightens the interior and a light diffuser pocket that transforms our headlamp into a lantern for better lighting in the dark.

9 months = amazing durability, tent!

A bombproof, dry tent! Back a few years, I moved to become a full-time guide. I was still paying a lease in the big city, which meant Id have to live in my tent for 9 months starting in late February. Luckily I had a Trango 2. I never got wet or had a problem with Mtn. snow. This tent is amazing!! I don't know of one better!

High Mountain Home

I read the reviews, studied the specs, deliberated over all the choices. Let me tell you, this sucker is bomb proof. After taking it on some seriously windy and classically foul-weathered mountains, it has stood without a scratch. I have hardly seen the walls bow at 70+mph winds. I’ve spent nights in it with three people and all our gear, attesting to its room and comfortability. Perhaps my favorite feature is the plethora of large pockets, making it excellent for drying gear and storing monstrous amounts of gear. I will add that the headlamp pocket does an excellent job of illuminating the entire tent with one headlamp. While the snow flaps on the front vestibule are excellent in certain conditions, they do make entry and exit from the tent somewhat cumbersome as you can only peek open the zipper doors. This tent’s ability to trap warm air inside is absurdly high, like a giant air bubble keeping everyone cozy. Don’t forget to vent though, lest you end up with condensation, especially on your window for viewing outside conditions. All in all, it’s a great tent and has become a home for me on high mountains.

Intuitive setup and bomber construction

Intuitive setup and bomber construction! I bought this for vehicle based winter and cold weather camping. It is made from high quality materials and appears to be robust. I was quickly able to set up the tent without reference to the directions. The poles are color coated and clip in to appropriately sized wire gated plastic clips. In areas where the poles cross, there are larger clips to accommodate both poles. All poles are external, not sleeved, except for the vestibule pole. External poles allow for quick and straightforward setup. I bought the Trango 2 and found it plenty big two people, especially when using the vestibule. It is a palace if you are solo!

Just the best tent!

The quality of this tent is unbeatable in my opinion. I camp with my boyfriend quite often, and we wanted a tent that would help shield us from harsh cold climate. When the right clothing and gear is used, this tent provides us with the warmth we need in snowy weather, and cold temperatures in general. We’ll be camping tomorrow in desert cold climate with our dog and I’m confident that it will go great with this tent. We’ve camped in our tent about 10 times before and we have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. the setup is very easy as well. We 100% recommended this tent for a two person duo, especially in colder climates. You won’t be disappointed!

Good for cold weather

My review is for the 2-person version of this tent. This tent along with my Bishop Pass sleeping bag keeps me very cozy...I've only used it down to about 15 degrees in Wisconsin cold. I know 4-season tents aren't necessarily meant to be waterproof, so I will say I was soaked during a cold fall rain and the tent wouldn't dry as there was not much sun that day. As long as you stay out of wet snow and are in just a more dry powder you should be cozy in this tent. I agree that the clasps are a but finnicky as the need to be pinched closed. It's easier if you're not in higher altitude and/or in conditions where the weather changes are extreme, as I've gotten by many times just clipping the hooks over the poles without locking them. This makes for super fast setup. If you're in blistery conditions you would probably want to lock them...the tent is really sturdy. One of the most nauseating things about this tent is the rain fly color. I have entered this tent after a couple drinks and felt literally nauseated because it is an overpowering red color. Without drinking it is still an unnerving color...think of leaving your red, murdery light on on your headlamp all night when you just want a relaxing night of sleep. Without the rainfly it's great! But I've said "forget it" a couple times and have had some regrets because for some reason the overpowering red color just affects me too much. Otherwise, a pretty good tent. Oh-there are two vestibules when the rainfly is on...one for your gear, and one apparently for using the bathroom. I said I never would use it but when it's cold as hell and you're exhausted alone in the woods in the middle of the night, you will probably use it and it's a nice feature to have.

Highly recommend!

Really quick and simple set-up! The inside is very spacious so you can probably fit 3 people and be pretty snug or fit your packs inside if you didn't want to leave them in the vestibule.
