Works as advertised

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I happily discovered that Backcountry was stocking the replacement MSR filter for the Autoflow Gravity system. These have been out of stock at MSR and not even offered by another nationwide outdoor products retail cooperative, though they sell the system (how does that make sense?!). The new filter was due in my system and speeded up water filtration noticeably.

Heavy Duty and Durable

I have owned this filter for 4 seasons and use it at least 25-30 days per year. It has held up great. I am buying a replacement filter because we had to backflush for every use on the last trip where we used a lot of lake water. Helpful tip to others is that if you want a lightweight way to backflush in the field you can just bring a Lifewater bottle of water with the nozzle top. This fits perfectly on the back end of the filter and allows you to forcefully clear the filter in the field with already filtered water. The issue is that you have to make sure you always have some filtered water before you do that!

Best Expedition Filter EVER

I reviewed this product in the past and gave it 4 stars; so fast, but questioned it's longevity...can now say, these babies ROCK. Best system I've used in over 20 years of providing safe water to large groups of clients. Recommend the Autoflow 100%.

Great filter in camp

I have used these filters in my base camp for a number of years now. They work incredibly well and are easily cleaned by back flushing. Depending on the water you are filtering they last a decent amount of time. I am out a lot and usually go through 2 cartridges per season. They are quite rugged but you must not let them freeze. Really good filter.

Definitely Great

I love this filter, the gravity water system is worth the weight. It takes no effort except finding a place to have the bag. It's light weight and fast. If you back flush the cartridge periodically it stays useful even in the dirtiest water conditions.

Fast and reliable water filtration

I offer guided multi day river rafting trips here in Alaska, for groups of up to 12 people. We've tried a variety of water filtration systems over a 20 year period of time...maybe all of them? This little puppy can really flow some water. The large capacity water input bag is a bonus, for when we are hydrating a large group. The cartridges retained their flow rate quite well over the weeks of heavy use, but we have only used this system for one summer and the rivers were super clear and clean due to dry, warm weather conditions. So far, I find them to be the best option available for gravity fed expedition use. I would give this water filtration system five stars+, if it was provided with a field back-flushing kit. At about a hundred gallons, the syatem began to slow down and the only option was to swap in a new cartridge.

Fast and easy filtering

Much faster and easier than hand pump filters, but you must back flush every 8-10 liters even if the water appears clear. I didn't pay much attention to this at first because the water I was filtering was from a tap and appeared to be clear, but it contained tanin and began slowing down. MSR (Cascade designs) customer service flushed the filter for me for a reasonable cost and now it works fine. Great customer service and turnaround.
