Why We Like The MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe
Balancing our needs for float, traction, and light weight, the MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe carries us through the backcountry with confidence. The frame provides 360-degree traction when we're crossing a field of powder or ascending a wind-blown ridgeline, and Paragon bindings work with steel crampons to provide sure-footed traction.

Best snowshoes in my opinion
Super light, great traction, and the new binding is extremely comfortable. Fast to get on and off too.

Great snowshoes but toe crampon is weak.
I love everything about these snowshoes except the durability. First hike in the Adirondacks and the toe crampon bent. I bent it back, but they continue to bend on every hike. I had this exact same problem with my prior pair of MSR Lightning Ascents. At this price point, I expect better durability.

Got these for winter peak bagging and approaches in Utah. The traction is excellent even on ice and I love the heel bar for going up steep grades. Binding system is quick and easy. Frames feel plenty durable for my 200+ lbs plus pack weight. Look forward to many winter expeditions with them in the future.

Solid shoes
I have three pairs of these in different sizes and they are absolute workhorses for pushing through deep snow. I use them for wildlife surveys in the boreal forest and arctic so they see a lot of miles through heavy snow with a ton of undersnow obstruction. I've only recently had to replace some of the crampon assemblies due to the straps wearing out. I had the old three strap system, and MSR hooked me up with those older sets since my cold weather boots don't fit into the Paragon bindings. Will definitely buy again when they finally break. Please offer the old three strap system as a purchasable option though!

Shifted to these after using
Shifted to these after using a parent product (Lightning Ascent Axis) and the harness has seen so much improvement. Comfortable and I feel like even in very cold conditions, it will be easy to put on. Still the loudest snowshoes on the snow, but grip and efficiency seem to come at that cost.
