Why We Like The Windburner Stove Group System
Taking the family for a backpacking trip has its ups and downs, but at least dinner doesn't have to be one of the hitches. The MSR Windburner Stove Group System comes with a generous 2.5-liter pot, so you can mix up anything from oatmeal to borscht with plenty to go around, and with precise control you can saute some veggies, or simply let your stew simmer without overflowing. We really appreciate that, even if it gets windy, the pot is designed to enclose the burner completely so nothing slows down dinner, and an internal pressure regulator keeps it running strong if temperatures drop.

Excellent for groups!
Excellent system! Performed perfectly for all our trips this summer for a party of 12. We used both the 5L and 2.5L pot for all of us and it was perfect. Uses very little fuel and cooks fast. Only drawback I see is that you can ONLY use the pots designed for the system. Also it would be a good upgrade to have the pots lock in place. Be aware the little clip that hooks the lid on has a tendency to fall off. When you get the pot use some pliers and tighten all of them - definate design flaw. It would be simple to just make these so they don't come off.

Lid will not last long
The pressure regulator is genius. We cooked an entire breakfast on an "empty" cartridge. The lid is likely to fail soon. One out of four stoves already has a ripped rubber knob because the locking handle is poorly designed. The stove worked well on a recent trip, but the numerous reports about the thermal switch are concerning.

MSR group stove stopped working
First day of use and stopped… I’ve been using the smaller wind burner for years… but the first time I used the group stove it failed. I’ve been following the links and see the information for resetting the thermal trip.. but it doesn’t show how to do this on the tripod windburned with remote canister. Embarrassing as well as I was leading a group of people youngsters. Sat in the cold with no working stove.

Stopped working after light use!
Used for maybe, 8 days use, has stopped working. Sadly stopped working in a very remote area of Scottish Highlands causing the trip to sto several days early. Have used MSR stoves for 3 decades both professionlay as a guide and in my own time I was surprised to be let down by this.

Don't buy
I bought this a couple of years ago and used it half a dozen times. It abruptly stopped working during use and the warranty department takes 9 to 16 weeks depending on where you read it to get your item back to you

Great stove system!
This stove system is amazing! I used it in Mt Baker, Washington and had windy conditions during our trip. The stove just worked amazing and was very easy to setup/use. Would definitely recommnend it

Delivers
Just used for a week straight. Wind performance as expected is amazing. Pot size is perfect for 2 very, very hungry people or 2 and a kid. The pot coating is impressive. It sautees veggies wonderfully. I'd cook those, transfer to a bowl, then finish cooking in the main pot. Did not miss having the skillet really. One 8oz canister lasted 5 days, could go way longer if just doing freeze dried.

Awsome stove system for adventures
I recently took the MSR Windburner Combo system on a week-long bike tour along the central coast of California. After hours of research I decided that the Windburner Combo fit the criteria I was looking for, large enough to cook for multiple riders and easy to use in the winds along the coastline. This stove not only met but it exceeded my expectations, as MSR usually does. At first I thought that the pot was a little big for what I wanted, but once I started to pack I found I could fit the stove, my bowl, a spork, lighter, coffee, and my reusable food wraps in the pot this saved space and kept the kitchen gear organized. This stove has great temperature control, I was able to boil quickly as well as keep food at a low simmer all without having to worry about the stove blowing out. Thanks to the radiant heater being fully enclosed we were able to easily cook on the beach or on the windy hillsides overlooking the ocean. The rings on the bottom of both the pot and skillet are meant to hold heat on the bottom of the cookware, but I also found that your pot or pan will always be centered on the burner which keeps even heat over the pans and adds lots of stability this is great for people who like to do more cooking while on their adventures! The ceramic coating makes the cleanup a breeze which is great after a long day of riding. The pot lid is also worth mentioning, being made from aluminum it cools quickly so you don't have to worry about it being too hot for too long, also speaking of hot lids the lid has a built-in strainer with a lid latch so you don't have to hold that hot lid while straining your pastas. I also found that if you don't have a convenient place to set your lid while cooking you can attach it to the handle to keep it off the ground and out of the way. The addition of the skillet was very nice it gave us multiple ways to cook and make more than one type of food at a time.
