Why We Like The MYSTERY RANCH Mission Wheelie 65L Rolling Gear Bag

When we're on a mission to travel without hiccups, we're hauling our gear in the Mission Wheelie 65L Rolling Gear Bag by MYSTERY RANCH. We trust the polycarbonate shell, 840-denier fabric, and aluminum corner and wheel protection to hold up to the rigors of travel, while the retractable handle and wheels make the Mission Wheelie more mobile than the typical gear duffle. With 65 liters of carrying capacity, this is a big bag for gear-intensive weekends and longer trips.

Mission Wheelie 65

I bought this travel bag because I needed something quick to replace my Mission Wheelie 130 which was in for repairs from heavy damage by the baggage folks of American Airlines. I travel a lot for the U.S. Forest Service for incident management, and have found this Mission 65 to be a great travel bag for short trips with the same features as the larger 130 version. Very pleased with the weight, mobility and updated materials used on this new version.

It's mostly better

I appreciate the additional pockets and zippers which allow better organization. Even though I find shoe storage silly as it makes it so much harder to pack around the shoes, it's nice to have as an option. Handle and wheels are sturdy which is great. Everything else is worse: The new fabric is not as sturdy, already seeing significant degradation after three airline trips with never more than one plane switch over. The ID pocket is so poorly placed and designed I doubt your card will survive more than two consecutive flights. But the real issue is the sizing. I don't know who is in charge over there but I'm exhausted by MR making objectively poor decisions while also lazily designing products. I regularly see 65l packs as carry-ons and these guys think that's all of a sudden a good check in size? Filled with clothes, the 65l weighs 35 pounds. Everyone who has ever traveled anywhere knows that the ideal size for a checked bag is 90 liters. The old 80l was ok and I hoped they would increase capacity to 90 but here we are at 65. 110l is almost always too heavy which means the whole series is practically worthless for air travel. I would recommend it for vehicular travel but I imagine that few people are shopping for that purpose.

Robust, easy to handle, protected CPAP etc.

Bought this as my bag for week-long cross-state bicycle ride. First use was slung under the shuttle bus to beginning town then bag was collected every morning & transported to next night's hotel. Held more than enough clothes, bike gear, shoes for the week. On last day had water bottles, empty panniers, everything I didn't want to carry was stuffed into it and slung under the bus. No damage, no loose ends, no problems at all. Bottom hard shell protects CPAP case well when padded with clothes.

tougher than the rest

this is the MR version of a stoable airline travel bag. I like that the upper half is soft so you can smash it in when on an overloaded flight. the wheels look bomb proof. has a handle everywhere. Will be buying another one size up soon.

45L - Says TSA approved, but doesn't fit Delta

I'm a long-time MR customer and advocate. I love their products and pack innovations. They always think of everything when it comes to how they develop products. However, in this instance (45L Mission Wheelie), they have fallen just short. The issue is getting the bag in and out of overhead carry-on spaces on some models of planes, including Delta's smaller domestic jets. The online measurements state it is 12", but the bag I received is 12.5" (at the wheels). Yes, this is a duffle style and can be "smooshed." However, if the internal braces are engaged, it is quite rigid and too wide to fit through the opening of the overheads. Let's be frank, you aren't going to wheel this around an airport without the braces engaged because it would stand on its own and it is not feasible to disengage the braces before boarding. All other aspects exceed my expectations -They are up to MR's standard. But I needed a carry-on for domestic travel, and now I am checking this thing at the gate on each flight -- therefore, rendering it useless for my needs.

Bomb proof with tons of space!

Love everything about this pack, the size, the breakdown, the wheeling/handling. The thing I miss is locking function. I also got the mission 45 and there is locking function on the zippers which I love and thought was offered on the larger. Overall though very satisfied. Traveling to Nepal in a few weeks for a trip to Everest so check back after I truly get some miles on this product.

This is a beast of suitcase

I am sailing in Croatia so i needed a soft side luggage for storage on the boat. This is perfect for carrying all my stuff and stores well when not in use. The bottom is secure and crush proof.

Bomb proof?

Ight be bomb proof, but is not United Airlines proof. They managed to tear a hole in my 80l., on the first flight. Other than that, I love it.

Great Bag!

This bag has been an awesome upgrade. Internal compartments are well thought out. There is a dirty clothes area as well as a shoe pocket and other compartments to keep things tidy. Looks great and is easy to pack around. I have been able to fit a weeks worth of work clothes in the bag, plus extra travel gear and had no problems. Materials seem to be solid as well. I look forward to using this bag for years to come.
