Heron Jr Kayak
The lightweight, kid-sized Heron Jr Kayak from Old Town will have the munchkins racing circles around your big, ponderous container ship of a kayak. It tracks well for easy paddling and maneuvers as quickly as a friendly mongoose to minimize the time they spend stuck in the reeds. The boat's fitted with an internal foam billet so they can't send it to the bottom of the lake when they tip it over. A comfy seat keeps backsides happy, and best of all (for them, anyway) is the Tag Along Tow System, which allows the Heron Jr. to easily hook up to another boat for a relaxing ride around the pond while you get in that extra workout.

Great boat for kids!
I bought two of these boats in 2018 when my daughter was 6 years old. They have been extensively used both for playing, lake paddling and multi-day sea trips. Thw tow line is a very helpful feature and it works well to tow kids behind a single sea kayak even longer distances. They are stable, durable and robust. Since they have a V-shaped hull they track relativelt straight, and much better then other kids boats we have tried. They lack foot rest, which would be a nice upgrade. My kids have been able to use the boats up until approx 11 years of age, or 150-155 cm length.

Perfect fit for my nine year old
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This kayak is exactly what I was hoping it would be for my kiddo. It's light-weight and a piece of cake to lift and load onto the car, and my son has no problem carrying it to the water by himself. It's nice and narrow for his kid arms to paddle but stable enough that he hasn't capsized. The only thing I'd add is foot pegs, but as a beginner, he doesn't know what he's missing.

Too expensive
I was very disappointed that the heron jr. doesn’t come with adjustable foot pegs or any for that matter. The seat is also pretty poor. Priced too close to adult size kayaks with more features and abilities is my main gripe, though. Come on old town. It’s for kids. 200 would be plenty for this bobber.
