Why We Like The Ooni Koda 2 Max Oven

The Ooni Koda 2 Max Oven is for those of us who struggle to choose between a traditional Neapolitan or pepperoni pizza—or to splurge on a Calabrese or prosciutto, pear, and gorgonzola pie. Ooni's biggest pizza oven lets us cook two 12-inch pizzas, three 10-inch pizzas, or one 20-inch pizza at once with its 24-inch cooking surface and two, independently controlled gas burners that provide even cooking. The Koda runs on propane cylinders, is ready to cook in 30 minutes, and can fire up a pizza in as little as 60 seconds. As much as we love grills and campfires, it's the Ooni Koda that's made us culinary legends at our homes and local campgrounds.

Good pizza, middling usability

Good cooking overall but the igniter on one side didn't light with the piezo, I had to light it with a match. Also had about a 50C difference between the two sides.

Pass on it.

Terrible. I bought it with high expectations. It’s very inconsistent and looses a lot of heat. The cheese and crust will burn and the dough underneath will be close to raw. The stone doesn’t hold heat. Even tried using steel. Made over 40 pizzas and I can get better results using the generic oven in my kitchen.

Solid oven with short learning curve

Solid oven with a lot of space for cooking that reduces the risk of burning the sides of the crust (I have cooked some pizzas with the side crust a little to charred - it happens). It did take me a while to learn how to light the burners consistently but now it's automatic. I have cooked Neapolitan / NYC / and Chicago thin crust on this oven with great results. Other than Neapolitan - to get the crust leopard spots / top done my best results happen when I heat the oven for 35 minutes to get the stones hot - then reduce the temperature to 600 (NYC) or 550 (Chicago thin crust) for cooking. This results in a nicely done top and bottom (crust). My recommendation would be to to purchase the Cover and a turning peel (essential). Also, there are a lot of dough recipes on YouTube that will help you make the type of pizza you want.

Ooni Supersized

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Upgraded from Koda 16. The extra space is a game changer. It makes cooking 12-15” pizzas so much easier and it makes cooking 16-20” pizzas possible. Love the independently adjustable burners on the sides. It does take longer to heat up the oven though.

Horrible customer service

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Upon seeing this item for sale I called the customer service representative. After stating that the Ooni website had 2 options (propane vs natural gas) I was assured by the representative that the item was compatible with both, even after reminding them that the manufacturer recommends not using the propane version with natural gas. I specifically states that I would only order this heavy item if they would send the fedex driver to pick up the item if I needed to return it. Upon my delivery date, as expected I received the propane only version and needed to return. I was told that they could not send a delivery man to retrieve the item and were incredibly rude after multiple phone calls. I am leaving this bad review for the company Backcountry and their awful customer service, not necessarily the item

Amazing pizza oven

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent pizza oven! We use it multiple times a week and the results are amazing. It heats up fast, keeps heat well even for cooking 3+ pizzas in close succession. The size is great for larger or multiple pizzas and an evenly cooked crust.

Great fun oven, spacious, uneven heat though

This thing is amazing so far. First time making neopolitan at home, used sourdough starter for dough. Oven was left on for almost 45 minutes on full blast but wouldn't get above 715F. After baking one pizza, the bottom was a little underdone, so I lowered the heat on both burners. After lowering both dials the oven some how cranked up to 760F and was rising. Idk what's up with that. Lowering it further then got the temp lower eventually. Also the right side reads 30-50 degrees hotter than the left side when both dials were at the same setting. Either way I'm excited to keep using this thing. It's a beast.

Couldn't heat it up in 1 hour

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were heating it up to make some napoletana and It just couldn't get up both sides to the maximum heat. We gave up after 90 minutes of max heating.
