Why We Like The Ortovox Westalpen Softshell Pant
The Ortovox Westalpen Softshell Pant leans into ventilation and breathability to help us conquer high-output activities in the alpine without overheating. The nylon-stretch blend provides wind-, water-, and abrasion-resistance while adding ventilation zippers that let us dump heat in a hurry on calorie-burning ascents. The pant hems are reinforced to protect against sharp edges and feature a quick-gaiter with Dyneema fasteners to fasten the pants over our mountaineering boots

Absolutely my favorite pant
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Size Bought:
- M
I wore these pants for 9 days of alpine rock and glacier travel recently. They performed well in a wide range of conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry) and exceeded expectations. I only added a longer base layer on the very coldest summit day (below freezing). Especially nice was the heat-dumping side zips. Integrated gaiters worked well, and when combined with a hardshell pant I was able to do a stream crossing without getting any water in my boots even without an external gaiter.
