Terrible design, painful and unusable

My experience mirrors that of the other reviewer. Your scapula will be a-hurting if you choose this pack, so don't choose this pack. It is weirdly badly designed, not like Osprey to make a sucky pack. Absolutely no way to improve the comfort of this pack in the field, because the hard plastic design is what it is--hard and placed exactly where you don't need hard edgy plastic pieces digging into your scapula. Mine were rubbed red and sore. This design flaw makes the pack unusable, but otherwise, it is very nice. I don't even want to donate it to anyone because will just hurt them, too, and why would I pass along something defective to anyone.

Major flaws with redesign

I used the exos on thruhike and was eager to try the eja for a womens specific fit. The shoulder straps and belt fit where a big improvement for me, but there are two flaws that keep me from using this pack. The biggest flaw is the plastic pieces sitting on your scapula. I had abrasions my first time using the pack. The second flaw is the compression straps on the outside of the water bottle compartments. You cannot compress your pack AND get out your bottle while hiking. I'll keep this to loan out since it is adjustable, but already bought another pack for personal use.

Really nice pack. I'll compare to the old model.

I have used the Eja 48 model before this one. There are things I like more about this new model and things I like less. Here is my comparison: Pros for new model: Not as wide as the old one. Side pockets, however they are really hard to zip after you open them while wearing the pack. Shoulder adjustments are really nice. The hip belt is positioned absolutely perfect, likely due to the adjustable shoulder straps. This pack feels more sturdy and well built. Cons for new model: The shoulder straps are not nearly as padded and comfortable. The side pockets are not as large on the new model. I feel like I can't fit as much into this pack. I do like this new model very much but all in all I think that the old model is a bit more comfortable for me. I will keep and continue to use this one and hopefully I will become more used to the differences and come to love this one as much as the old one. This new pack fits well and feels balanced. None of the cons I mentioned are a deal breaker for me. A lot of thought has gone into this design and I appreciate it!

wanted to love this

I purchased a small Eja 48 from my local gear store. i loved the forest green color and wanted to buy this pack because i have an osprey levity (im female) and i thought i wanted a pack that would carry a little more weight, bit still be comfortable and lightweight. It also has many more features than the minimalist levity. I have to say, two things made me return this pack. The biggest issue is how you adjust the frame/suspeniom. this is the first version of the Eja to have two hard plastic pieces in the air suspension to help make the pack more adjustable. Great idea, however the plastic dug into my back and was uncomfortable. I dont feel plastic in my back woth my Levity. Osprey, please change this feature or use soft material. Also, the hip pockets...i have read so many reviews where people wanted hip pockets! And for Osprey to bring them back, however there are two issues with these pockets. 1. They are a weirs shape and I cannot fit my Samsung Galaxy S20+ in it and they are bulky... the pockets stuck out and rubbed against my arms even with out filling them. I took my Eja back, I might continue looking for an older small pack, most places are sold out. But, I also love love love my Levity. I often carry 21-232bs in it and it seems to holdcthe extra lb or 2 just fine.
