Why We Like The Osprey Fairview 40L Backpack
Lightweight, durable, and loaded with travel-specific features, the Osprey Fairview 40L Backpack is our go-to pack when we're traveling light. The smallest pack in the women's Fairview series, the 40-liter size is carry-on compliant on most flights and features a women-specific fit for comfort. It also features a large panel zip access to the main compartment with lockable sliders—and pretty much every pocket we can imagine! That includes dual mesh pockets for bottles and quick stowables, a top zippered liquids pocket, a large zippered lower compartment, a zippered front panel stash pocket, an integrated sleeve for a laptop or tablet, and an internal front flap zippered mesh pocket. That lets us stash our life on our back for a wild weekend or an epic escape to somewhere exotic.

Very nice quality. Needs more
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very nice quality. Needs more organizational pockets both on the exterior and interior. Extremely comfortable to carry.

Perfect for Europe

I read and watched a lot of reviews for this backpack. I went to Italy and Croatia for 3 weeks and stuffed it full. It did not feel too heavy for me to carry. The adjustable straps helped with weight distribution on my back. I was surprised but happy that it did fit on a small, express jet airplane in the overhead bin. One of my favorite features is the way the straps have their own hideaway zippy pouch. Right before I got on the plane, standing in line to board, I could tuck my straps away quickly, zip them up and carry it with the side strap. I love this bag! Maximum storage space!!

Packed it all summer
This is a great pack for both car and airline travel. I pack smart with packing compressors packing cubes but I wouldn’t say I pack light and I had plenty of space. The waist belt allows me to comfortably carry this pack through the airport. The straps stow easily and it fits in the overhead bin.

Great backpack

This is my favorite travel backpack. It's perfectly sized as a Delta carry-on. It has the Osprey internal support system, that when properly fitted, transfers weight from your shoulders to your hips. I usually can't carry anything over a 25L pack due to an old shoulder injury but can carry this. 3 things to note - 1) it's made for a woman's body with closer shoulder straps & wider hip belt; the man's version is called Farpoint; 2) it will feel clunky if it isn't adjusted peoperly; look on Ospreys website for videos on how to adjust it; and 3) it's a little large to be an underseat personal item, but has always fit well for me in overhead bins even on regional flights.

This backpack is great for
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This backpack is great for traveling, especially on a flight. The adjustable straps make it a perfect companion for your back if you’re like me and can never find a perfect fit in packs. The straps can be hidden with a zippable cover that is stowed away in a pocket at the bottom of the pack as well. My favorite part of this bag is that the hip belt is durable and comfortable so it makes carrying it easy.

What to do with the strap flap?
I like that the straps for the backpack can be put away behind a zippered flap. However, when the straps are in use, it took me a while to figure out WHERE to put the flap when not in use.

High quality bag! High quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] High quality bag! High quality materials! The 3 star rating is because they removed some pockets from the previous design, removed a Velcro section, and made the bag more awkward compared to previous versions. I like my old model bag much more.

Really clunky, bad design
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Osprey missed the mark on this one, and should not sell such a clinker. It fails as a pack and as a carry-on. Sent it back.

Such a fantastic design! I
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Such a fantastic design! I absolutely love the zipper compartment for the straps and the compression straps inside. We used compression cubes and stuff sacks to maximize space, and we very satisfied with the 40L size for 2 weeks of "lightweight" travel.
