Mutant 22L Backpack
Built for done-in-a-day missions in the alpine, the Osprey Mutant 22L Backpack acts as your slimmed down pack to haul your essentials on your summit bid. The three point hauling system keeps the pack situated upright as you sit at a belay station when there is a steep, technical pitch ahead of you. The front panel daisy chain allows for extra gear to be clipped to the outside of the pack for quick access when you need it, and ice tool carry holds your ice tools safely when you don't need to swing them.

Overall great climbing bag but critical issues
After doing quite a bit of research I bought this pack. Previously, I used a cold cold world Valdez pack but wanted something a bit smaller for multi pitch climbing. The first thing noticed was that the top/main zipper snags every time one opens or closes it, due to the top being squarish and the zip has to go around a sharp corner. This makes me wonder if zipper will last, when I have the pack full. Speaking of, the amount of volume is just perfect for days's outing - fits a single rack, harness, helmet, water bottle, sandwich... Once climbing, the lack of a top pocket is very evident. One has to open the main zip and then open the internal zip pocket to get something small. For comfort, the straps at the top are quite close and feels tight on the neck.

Great bag but not fully unisex
I needed a mid-size bag for a full day of multi-pitch climbing, crag hopping, and lots of hiking in between. Priorities were lightweight, supportive, wearable while climbing, and water bladder compatibility. This bag fits the bill on all of those and is built to comfortably accommodate a harness while being to easily access gear. Where it missed the mark for me was that it's built for a male body. I tried as many adjustments as much as possible but as a 5'4"" female I couldn't get the right fit. I hope osprey recognizes an untapped market and creates female versions of these technical bags some day, like they do for hiking bags!
