Good pack but why not have fasteners for water bottle sleeves? And zippers that run down the pack sides.
Got this to have a hydrator pack for Kilimanjaro with room for a raincoat, extra clothes and the usual day pack accessories. As with most day packs these days, there was no zipper, strap or velcro closer at the top of the water bottle sleeves. I, and I bet most, owners use at least one of the sleeves for things other than water bottles. And since this is a hydrator pack with an internal 2. 5 liter water bladder, why would you want to use either sleeve for a water bottle? Yeah, Yeah, maybe you put a sports drink in one of those sleeves but you wouldn't often need both for bottles. So I ended up gluing velcro at the top of each sleeve so my sunscreen, little flashlight, protein bar, etc. etc. wouldn't fall out. I shouldn't have to do this. My second suggestion would be to have the access zippers to the main compartment run farther down the pack. This pack is narrow and deep. To get things that are on the bottom requires an effort, often requiring me to unload a lot of stuff to get to the bottom. Having whined, I also have to say that the hydrator equipment worked great, the firm padding on the back was comfortable and the pack is a great size for what I needed on the mountain. Before using it, I thought that 30 liters would be unnecessarily large for a day pack but I used all of the space. I use the Skarab a lot but I still also use my well travelled Jansport because it has zippered side pockets and the main compartment is much more accessible.

Needs lifter straps
Would be perfect if it had load lifter straps, whistle on the chest strap like every other Osprey

Great pack with a downside or two
If you load this pack for a 2-4 day trip youll be pushing the limits the thing I have the largest complaint with this pack is the lack of load lifter straps and maybe its just cause the pack just doesnt fit my torso but If I put weight in this pack and actually try to use the hip belt the pack hangs way away from my middle and upper back and starts to throw the weight around in a fairly obnoxious way

This pack made all the
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This pack made all the difference! Beyond happy with my pro deal sponsorship. I have been using a cheap and poor fitted pack for years and I never realized how big of a difference this would make for my work.

Completed the Everest Base Camp Trek a few weeks ago. Out of 8 people in our group there were 5 of us wearing Osprey packs. I had the Scarab 30 and loved it. We hiked in sun and rain, hot and cold, through wood and over rock fields. This pack was on my back every day every step of the way. The bladder was full with an extra bottle of water on the side at the waist belt and the bag was full with essentials for weather swap outs and everything i needed to get from A to B and survive without my big duffel. It never chafed my shoulders or waist, felt great on my back and didn't sweat me up by allowing air to flow around it. It was exactly the right choice. The design of the bladder makes it very easy to fill and shove back in its home. the only thing i would change or add would be a cover over the drinking port. We were dropping our packs in a lot of places, on trails in Tea houses, coffee houses and different temples, everywhere and the drinking port always ended up on the ground. Would of been nice to have some sort of cover.
