Why We Like The Osprey Syncro 20L Backpack
The Osprey Syncro 20L Backpack carries everything needed to escape the maddening crowds of popular trail riding destinations. This streamlined hydration pack features a bike-specific suspension for added stability and includes a 2.5 liter Hydraulics reservoir with a magnetic bite valve for convenient drinking on the trail. The Osprey AirSpeed suspension system elevates the pack off our back for increased air circulation, eliminating the soaking-wet sensation we hate about less ventilated packs.
Hugging our body to support heavy loads, the BioStretch shoulder harness and adjustable hip belt keep bouncing to a minimum. The Synchro features various smart pockets for storing all our riding necessities, an integrated rain cover, a blinker light attachment (light not included) and LidLock helmet attachment, which conveniently holds our helmet as we grab post-ride food and drinks.

Best Day Hike Pack Ever
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I mtb 3-4 time a week and hike the remaining days year round in the North East. I have had the Syncro 12L for years and use it when ever I ride. I loved the pack so much I started using for short (5-10mile) summer day hikes but it was just a bit too small for longer hikes and for shoulder season and hiking the North East 115. I got the Syncro 20L that is perfect for longer (7-20 mile) high elevation day hikes in shoulder season. I've hike about 25 miles so far with the new 20L pack I can fit; 3L CamelBak reservoir, base layer, rain jacket, insulation layer, hat, tiny camp towel~10"x20", headlamp, micro first aid /survival kit, small back up battery pack for electronics, and plenty of space for food:sandwich, apple, snacks, half dozen energy bars, dog food/treats, dog collapsible bowl. The pocket design is way better than any hiking pack I've had or seen. The interior mesh pocket keep everything organize and easy to find when opening the pocket. The top pocket is plenty big enough for sunglasses or delicate items like small cameras. Outer mesh pockets are great for hiking poles, damp items like dog water bowl or towel if you go for a back country plunge. The suspension is super comfortable and air mesh helps a lot. My back still sweats if I'm hustling but you can feel the air across your back helping to continuously dry as you wear it. The waist belt has small stretchy pockets on the belt which are just big enough for energy bar and chap stick, compass. "Not"big enough for a smart phone. The incorporated rain fly is perfect too and use it often. Negatives: The Black metal suspension rods on my older Snycro 12L pack are rusting.(Many years of use) I've noticed that the coating on my new Syncros 20L metal suspension rods are now silver and thicker. So hoping Osprey has corrected this issue. The zippers are a bit tight and loud. Not as silky sliding as on my other Osprey packs. This may be by design so they don't accidentally open when biking and they certainly do not. Not a fan of the Osprey hydration bladders. They always spring a pin hole leak fairly quickly and they don't warranty this. I never have this issue with CamelBak. My wife loved this packs design so much but the men's shoulder straps didn't work with the female form So she bought the women's version the Sylva 20L As of Sept. 2024, For some very odd reason the American Osprey company is not selling the women's Sylva 20L in the United States. She had to buy it from a bike shop in Germany and have it shipped to NY. With exchange rate it ended up about the same price but did not come with the hydration reservoir. Backcountry should talk with Osprey and find out why they're not offering it in the U.S.

Back stays cool, lots water lots of room
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Size Bought:
- Medium
I've had a couple of the smaller osprey hydration packs- talon and others models. I've never tried the airspeed system and I can say it really is worth the hype. I had to stop a couple of times on the first ride to see the if the reservoir was leaking because I had this cooling breeze across my back I had never had before. If you want a system with better cooling a ventilation this is it, stop looking and pull the trigger. I'm just an average joe that's been an MTB rider since the 90's and I can say this is the best hydration pack I've ever owned hands down.

Favorite pack
I wanted a pack that would not only be good for biking ,but would be spacious enough for a day hike . The syncro 20 did just that and is very comfortable when fully loaded . The pack has many compartments and although it’s not a laptop bag ( not recommended for that ) I fit my 12 inch iPad Pro along with a padded sleeve into the bladder section perfectly.

Probably my favorite pack
I own several Osprey packs. This might be my favorite. It is the perfect size for a quick day hike. Whether I want to bring along a snack, my and my spouse's jackets, etc... Or maybe just my camera and single lens. Many ways to outfit the pack. Maybe throw my iPad in it and hop on my bike and head down to a coffee shop. Pretty much anything 5min to 4 hours....this pack is it. I have a 35L that I would grab if I wanted something for 4-24 hours and then I have a true backpacking pack for a the 1+ day hikes. But this pack is now my go-to pack!!

Great for hiking and biking
I wanted a ventilated backpack for mountain biking and hiking, and this is perfect. The main compartment is spacious, and if not full can be tightened up with compression straps so things don't move around. The outer pocket lets me organize everything neatly -- first aid kit, inReach communicator, flashlight, swiss army knife, some bike tools. The side sleeves can easily fit a Sigg water bottle. And when I hike or bike in hot weather, I no longer drench my back as I used to do with my non-ventilated pack!

sleeper pack in the line up / crosses categories
I use this pack for mountain biking, moto, and hiking. I bought this to have a larger capacity pack that will comfortably carry everything I'd need for big alpine rides and shoulder season where additional layers are needed. It doubles up as great day hiking and summit pack. Having the large capacity vertical tool storage compartment on the back rather than down low like the Raptor is a + IMO as is the narrower profile compared to the hiking packs in the line up. Easy too keep tools organized and provides extra storage when needed. Main compartment size is great for the larger bulkier items. The pack is very stable and easy to adjust when transitioning from easy riding to engaging descents. Fully loaded it is extremely comfortable. The ventilation provided by the airspeed setup is noticeable.
