Very solid frame and yet
Very solid frame and yet so lightweight. Lots of options to adjust fit and the load lifters make a big difference. Initial adventure was carrying 20+ lbs (sleeping bag, tarp, cook gear, snacks, 3 liters of water, etc) just over about 12 miles and the Talon handled that effortlessly, as expected. Looking forward to many more miles with this pack!

Overnight camp
Packed well for overnight camp, carried everything, good straps, pockets etc, comfortable and no faults with it on first use, almost better than my Exos Pro 55.

Good all around bag
Light good weight distribution. Straps and hip belt comfy . Would have given 5 stars if it had come with a rain cover and if there was a divided compartment.

Brilliant
Hard to fault Osprey bags. This is the third, and my previous two lasted more than 10 years each. And that is 10 years of almost daily use - packing for work, the gym, weekends away etc. Worth paying that bit extra for something that really lasts.

I bought this pack as
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this pack as a gift for my son. He had been borrowing my favorite pack and the only way he was going to give it back was if he had one of his own. Both of us are big fans of the quality, functionality and versatility of the Talon packs. (I have all 4 in the series).

I recently used the Osprey
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently used the Osprey Talon 44 for a one-day hike up Mt. Fuji, and I couldn’t be more impressed. This backpack is incredibly sturdy and handled a few falls without any damage. I was especially pleased with the mesh back panel, which, while still warm, was definitely cooler than typical backpacks, offering noticeable improvement in ventilation. The Talon 44 accommodates a 3L water reservoir perfectly, which was a game-changer for staying hydrated during the hike. I also opted for the medium-sized rain cover, and it fit flawlessly. One of the standout features is the safety whistle integrated into the chest buckle—an excellent touch for added security. Adjustability is another strong suit of this pack. I was able to tailor the fit precisely to my frame, which is 5'10" and 170 pounds, ensuring comfort throughout the 10-hour hike. With a load of roughly 20-25 pounds, I experienced zero back pain, highlighting the backpack’s impressive support and ergonomic design. Overall, the Osprey Talon 44 exceeded my expectations in every way, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable, well-designed daypack.

Good pack, but I went for Stratos after
I used this one for several months and it's a pretty good pack when on discount, but after careful consideration I switched to Stratos 44 and here's why 1) Too lightweight. They stripped too much and compared to Stratos, both shoulder pads and waist pads are very slim, much less comfortable with heavier loads. 2) Has no water proofing by itself and also no integrated rain cover. 3) Side compression straps don't feature fastex locks, which means you can't fully unstrap them. Makes it a pain to fit something large (for example, it you already used bottom straps for a tent and want to attach sleeping pad to the side) 4) Mesh pocket on the back goes loose very fast 5) Bottom is not very durable, starts to wear out quite easily 6) Waist pockets are designed in a way that you can't comfortably open and close them using only one hand Overall, it is a pretty good pack and it does it's job pretty well, but the aforementioned issues made me switch to Stratos. One the bright side, Talon seems to be more spacious (lid straps allow you to put some overhead head between the main compartment and the lid, stratos has the lid sewn in) and also 0.8lbs lighter.

The perfect pack for lightweight weekend missions
Looked at a lot of packs between 35-45 liters and this was the perfect bag. Highly functional in every way, while still comfortable and lightweight. Perfect weekend backpack!

Straddles the Boundary Between Long Day Hikes & Overnights
This pack pulls double duty between a large daypack for long hikes, and a light pack for overnights, or minimal 2+ night backpacking trips. The Talon is part of Osprey's lineup that focuses mostly on day packs, but Osprey made this with a very similar Airscape frame system to their popular Talon/Tempest 22 smaller packs while changing the pack and load design to more of a backpack - including a top lid, and sleeping bag compartment. The frame is not rigid like some other packs, and the hydration reservoir sits between the frame, and exterior of the pack. Is this better or worse than the interior? That depends on you, honestly. My experience is that the Talon 44 performs best with a fairly light load containing standard clothing and gear. If you start to load it up with heavier loads (25+ lbs) it starts to feel heavy, this is mainly due to the frame style. If you're looking for something similar in this size, but want more weight/stability, take a look at the Stratos/Sirrus 44L size packs, which are comparable, but have a more rigid frame, and Osprey's signature web/trampoline that breathes better. It's best you try both on to compare. If you're looking to haul even more weight over rougher terrain, the Kestel line-up may fit that bill. If you are someone who likes long day hikes, and most backpacking is just overnight, this could be your only pack.
