Apollo Jacket

When you're adventuring in the alpine, the weather can change quickly. Bring along the Outdoor Research Apollo Jacket for your climbing and hiking pursuits so you can be ready for those surprise storms. The jacket easily stows into its left-hand pocket and clips to the outside of your pack while retaining the performance features you want when you're climbing or hiking. For example, its waterproof construction with fully sealed seams prevent moisture from seeping through and dampening your outing. Underarm zippers allow you to quickly dump excess heat on strenuous ascents and approaches. Additionally, when you're climbing, the pockets are placed perfectly so you can still access them when you're wearing a harness and the double-separating front zipper reduces stress when you're on belay.

Light weight and waterproof

Did it's job well for moderate rain. Is light and breathable for activities, however that does mean it won't keep you dry for extended downpours. However that is not it's intended purpose rather than a flaw.

Great jacket

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:

I bought this jacket looking for a waterproof, breathable rain shell for cycling. The armpit vents were the most important feature for me in order to keep it from sticking to me when sweaty. This has vastly improved the experience of riding in rain and heat. I have seen other reviews that say the surface doesn't hold up well, but I haven't had it long enough to comment on that. I am not expecting it to remain permanently waterproof due to it being PFC free, but perhaps other reviewers did.

Nice jacket, great hood design

Wore for 45 minutes in steady rain and stayed dry- I appreciated the feel of the fabric (it makes a little noise with movement- but not much). My favorite part is the hood- the different adjustment points were easy to use and worked well to form the hood to my head so that I could both see and keep wind and water out. Jacket comes down all the way over my hips (I'm 5'7")- my only critique is that it would really benefit from a 2 way zipper! The jacket is slick and slid up as I walked - really wish all jacket zippers were 2 way for ventilation and fit and comfort.

I hope this jacket lasts because I really like it a lot. I got a good price too. I bought the purple.

It works well if there is a light mist or drizzle out, but it does not hold up to rain-- it will soak through after a couple of minutes. It does dry out quickly and is breathable, but I was hoping for better protection from the elements.

Comfortable but short-lived

Bought this jacket for commuting by bike, at the beginning I loved it but the double layer started peeling off after only a couple of months. Very disappointed!

Traveled with it, and is a great lightweight rain jacket. Perfect too when I was out kayaking and staying dry in the cooler weather.

After two ours under rain I was wet

Purchased one for my daughter, she went to backpacking trip in Iceland recently. First day was rainy, Apollo jacket held the water for two hours, after that she was wet. Her boyfriend had the same model (Apollo rain jacket for men), same story. So it seems to be OK for a small rain, but doesn't work for a whole day under the rain. Too bad, we always liked OR gear...

Lightweight and quiet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love it! The pit zips and cinched wrists/hood are great features. It packs up super small, doesn't make a lot of noise, and the color (blue) is beautiful! I have only worn it in small drizzles yet, but it worked great! A bit warm in summer, but the water rolled right off the fabric.
