Why We Like The Outdoor Research Aspire Trench Jacket
We like the Outdoor Research Aspire Trench Jacket because it's long on water protection but short on weight and bulk. The secret is the GORE-TEX Pac-Lite Plus membrane, which is durably waterproof and windproof, but also light and highly packable. That keeps the trench long and lean, giving us a lightweight rainjacket that we can wear comfortably in all four seasons or easily stuff in a pack, purse, or suitcase for our emergency shell.

Happy camper
After reading the reviews about the wonky zipper, I took a chance on this because it was just too good of a deal to pass up and figured I could deal with a finicky zipper at that price. I am happy to report the zipper on mine works great (got the "moth" color.) Other than that, seems like an awesome jacket - nice and long for soggy bike commutes, great pockets, beautiful color and lightweight, stretchy fabric. For reference, 5'7" 127# - medium fit well with a heavy hoodie underneath.

Not what I’d expect from OR
Super lightweight and plasticky- the zippers were tough to use and the cut really unflattering.

Overall - a high quality raincoat
Overall, I am happy with the style, color, and quality of this coat. I have not worn it a lot, so I cannot vouch for its waterproof claim - but so far, so good in rainy Eugene, OR. I am 5'3", 110 lbs and the size S is great for layering a fleece underneath, but a bit too big otherwise. The snaps on the sleeve cuff don't work for me - the sleeves are either too long and floppy or too tight to take the coat off. Even so, I think that this will be an excellent raincoat for traveling.

Almost perfect

The jacket is a great length, covers my derriere and fits nicely all around. I like the adjustability of the hood, though it looks a bit odd when the cord is pulled to make it smaller. The Moth color is pretty and neutral, and the Medium (my usual size) goes over a thin, packable down jacket without making me look stuffed. The zip is a little stiff at times, and the fabric CRINKLES when I move. But overall I'm so happy with the coat and definitely recommend it.

Beautiful jacket...I'm super pleased!
I had an older style OR rain jacket that had started to release its inner lining... Outdoor Research has such an amazing warranty policy! I reached out to them and they immediately offered to replace my older jacket with this lovely new one. I couldn't be more pleased! Not only is the jacket super attractive, but clearly the technology has improved...and I expect the lining in this new jacket to perform even better than the last. Can't say enough nice things about this company and their products. They definitely exceeded my expectations.

Not Waterproof
Wore while hiking in the PNW, definitely not a waterproof jacket! It's cute but got soaked.

Great Lightweight Trench
The Aspire line got it right. All features-pockets, length, hood, fabric- work, and I enjoy wearing this dependable article.

Excellent coverage!
This rain coat is longer than most for complete coverage. It's very lightweight for easy packing and comfortable to wear. I haven't used it in a solid downpour yet, but from the fit and looks of it, I expect it to keep me completely dry! It's also stylish and will be a great addition to my wardrobe.
