Why We Like The Carbide Jacket
Versatile, low bulk, and stylish to boot, the Outdoor Research Carbide Jacket gives us burly protection against the elements through long days exploring the resort. The 3-layer Pertex Shield construction, along with fully sealed seams, offers waterproof, breathable performance in some of winter's worst storms, while the zippered underarm vents help us dump excess heat quickly after hiking for your turns. The wire-brimmed Halo Hood provides reliable visibility when the snow is coming down sideways, and a powder skirt keeps snow from sneaking in when we take a tumble.

Perfect do it all Shell
I was concerned about the thickness of the material when I first got it. it seemed thin and could possibly tear, but I have put this shell to the test on long tours scraping trees and brush and it hasn't shown any wear. My only complaint is that I wish the powder belt sinched a hair tighter.

Seriously Great Piece of Gear - How does it fit?
Majorly Impressed. This is the backcountry soft shell i’ve been looking for for years. It totally cuts out the elements and lets you breath out heat and moisture when you are cranking. I was very curious about fit, i am 5’8” 180 and have a fairly broad shouldered muscular athletic build. i am a whitewater kayaker and was a wrestler and finding a good fit is tough in the skinny climber world. I read some of the other reviews on fit and decided to go with a Large. i generally use medium with OR softgoods. The fit was MONEY! Enough room for my base layers underneath without it feeling big or baggy. This sucker is getting a lot of uphill miles and i honestly couldn’t be happier. They nailed it on this one…can someone please sponsor me a set of the bibs?!

Great shell jacket
I'm about a month into wearing this as my daily ski jacket. A good quality shell like this one gives me the ability to change from thick and thin puffys underneath depending on our NE ski weather. The jacket is tough enough to take the knocks, but light enough to move well as I ski. The hood is big enough for a ski helmet, although a little more hood-room would be great. Overall fit is good. I'm 6"1', 190lbs and the large gives me just enough room for a few layers without feeling at all baggy. Love the color - very trendy this year!

Great jacket
Bought this shell and it’s everything I wanted in a ski shell. I sized up to be able to accommodate extra layers in the chilly climates of Canada. I’m 5’9” 145 lbs and usually wear a medium but bought a large and I’m happy with it.

Solid
I'm super impressed by the wind protection and how lightweight it is. The front zipper can be tough sometimes.

Would buy again if waist was let out some.
I returned this item. Material was nice but i prefer material thicker and durable. My fav or goretex. I returned this because jacket fit very nicely everywhere but the waist was too tight. Im 5'-9" 170 lbs, 32 in waist so im not overweight.

Lightweight, waterproof, well vented
I'm 5'10" 195lbs, standard proportions. I ordered the size Large. The waist and snow skirt fit snuggly but not too tight, however the sleeves are a little too long, the cuff Velcro is set up a little strangely, and the pass pocket likes to twist so that it's on the inside of the forearm. Otherwise it's a nice lightweight jacket perfectly at home on the skin track. Only feature that could make it better would be chest pockets large enough for climbing skins.

Great Feature Packed Ski Shell
I was impressed with the features and all the pockets on this jacket, especially when compared with higher cost options. The pass pocket on the left arm is a must have for me, and this didn't disappoint. The powder skirt is a great feature to have for those of us who don't wear bib-type pants. Recommend trying it on, as the fit is a bit longer for that ski/ride style. I'm normally a medium but got a large as I have a stockier frame and the medium was a bit tight on my shoulders/lats. No issue yet with the Pertex, and I've been impressed with how well it packs and how breathable it is compared to my Gore-Tex garments. Orange is my favorite color so I love how much orange kit OR is putting out, and the two tone breaks it up for my different toned pants. Overall have been really happy with my jacket!!

Awful zipper ruins otherwise good jacket
The jacket is comfortable if a little baggy. It's Waterproof. The zipper is awful though. It feels cheap and sticky. Mine refuses to fully open, making the jacket a pullover at this point. I would not recommend anyone buy this jacket given the poor zipper quality.
