Why We Like The Cirque Softshell Pant

The Outdoor Research Cirque Softshell Pants are our go-to pants for all things alpine. Their tough, stretchy, and water-resistant fabric was made for our most rugged missions, whether they're in the shoulder season or the dead of winter. Abrasion-resistant performance and a movement-mirroring stretch keep them prepared for mountainous terrain, while articulated knees and a gusseted crotch increase your natural comfort and range of motion. You'll also be ready for backcountry ski tours thanks to the dedicated avalanche beacon pocket and durable scuff guards that resist damage from ski edges, boot rub, and poles.

Best Mountain Soft Shell Pant

These pants are awesome. Great baggier fit for people with larger muscular legs. I’m 6’2 or 188cm and I got a L regular. Slightly long but nothing a belt can’t help. I took them on a mountaineering adventure snowshoeing through knee to waist deep snow without getting even a drop wet. Incredible breathability, stretch, and comfort. I love the color too! They even ripped because I snagged them with a crampon and still didn’t let any water through!

Definitely worth it

Very warm, quick drying as I live in a rain forest. I've had a pair for over a year and loved them so much I needed a second pair as I mostly live in them through fall, winter and spring. No damage or ware for over a year

Warm and comfortable

Wore while snowshoeing in cold conditions. They worked well with equipment and kept dry and warm

One of the best mountaineering pants you can get - durable, breathable, and yet still warm at any altitude. These are my go-to pants for many PNW mountain treks (Mt Adams, Middle Sister, Mt. Hood, etc). The fit is fairly true-to-size, but I would have expected a bit more stretch in the waist. I'm usually a 32 in most clothing, and M's feel a bit tight. There's plenty of stretch in the legs which makes for easily climbing, but the waist can definitely be a bit annoying. It's not enough to take away from how great these are, but something to consider if you're on the border of sizes.

Great Pants!

Got these to start mountaineering. Definitely good designs and well-thought out for such activies. Comfy over long hours, fits well and good enough to stop wind and allow breathability.

Great pants poor quality zippers

These are my favorite winter pants I have owned 3 pairs... My only complaint is zipper quality 2/3 have had pocket zippers fail so far...

Perfect

As a woman that has to purchase mens gear for sizing, these will be great for this winter. I find it hard to shop womens gear, as they don't fit in the hips. Not all adventurous women are a size 6.

Very impressive

Used these pants on a remote winter bike touring trip. I was so happy with how these performed. They went through a month of daily use and held up incredibly well and provided me with the protection I needed. My only complaint would be that they fit long (although this worked out to my advantage on the bike) and I have long legs (so for regular activities they will drag a bit). I used them with the OR suspenders.
