Why We Like The Outdoor Research Foray 3L Jacket
Through spring showers and mid-summer thunderstorms, the Outdoor Research Foray 3L Jacket keeps us dry and protected. The proprietary AscentShell Dry 3-layer design with Nikwax DWR keeps wind and rain off as we trek to high mountain passes and through dense forests, while the breathable material keeps us cool in warm weather. The TorsoFlo side vents allow us to wear the jacket as a poncho over our backpack to keep our gear dry and allow hot air to escape on grueling climbs. The jacket packs down small to easily fit inside our pack, so we can always be prepared for inclement weather.

Great jacket

I was looking for a rain jacket that breathes and that I could also wear in light snow with a layer or two. I had a lighter rain jacket that was more packable but it was a sweat box The side zips also sold me. I’ve worn this in a mix of weather and could not be happier.

I bought this as a replacement for a 13 year old Outdoor Research rain jacket and it’s a great upgrade. Took it out on a rainy windy PNW hike and stayed dry and warm. The 3 later design feels much nicer and meant it was very breathable even with the rain protection.

Solid Jacket
Bought this on sale from a third party. Well constructed, smooth sealed zipper function and seemingly durably material. Have a Rab raincoat which does not have the same degree of durability. Had the opportunity to wear this in a variety of rainy conditions over the last 3 weeks. Remained dry with no wet through after 70 minutes of light to moderate steady rain. The must have chest pocket kept electronics dry throughout. I am 5’8” 152 lbs and range between small or medium depending on cut. This coat seems to a slightly fitted cut and the small fit fine with room for a base layer and either micro puff vest or jacket with still plenty of room for movement. Large vents are bidirectional. Small criticism of all rain coats of this version would be the lack of lining/light pil on the inside front of the jacket when it is fully zipped - the fabric can get a little harsh around your chin/mouth. Light weight and readily packable. Not yet sure what the DWR retreat rate will be but mfg specs suggest using Nikwax wash/treat products. To date, a nice light weight, waterproof shell. So far, 5 stars.

Pleased so far - wish it was packable.
I haven't used the jacket yet, but the material and construction look great (as expected from OR). I only wish that this one was packable into one of the pockets like the last OR raincoat I am replacing.
