Disappointing Waterproofing

I have owned two of these jackets now since Fall 2022. The reason I've had two, is the first one lost its water proofness (despite my best efforts to re-waterproof it using Nikwax). The replacement jacket that OR sent me has been actually even worse, I have had it for less than a year and it is already allowing water to seep through. I'm really disappointed in this product especially since it is advertised as being super waterproof and an award-winning jacket.

If I ever need another, I'd start here

Extremely waterproof beyond anything else I've ever worn. The pit to hip two-way zippers create a lot of options for wearability and temperature control.

So far so good!

I needed a new waterproof jacket for daily activities (not on a crabbing boat on the Bering Sea) and this works exactly as described. I have worn it several times in drizzles and steady rains and it has kept me nice and dry. I am 5' 11" and bought a Large which fits well. If I was going to wear a thicker layer underneath I would probably go up a size. But I specifically bought this as a light rain jacket so am happy with how it fits.

Two jackets Tried - Both Leaked in a Year

I bought my Foray II GORE-TEX Jacket in Fall 2022. It performed well at first for the first 6 months or so, but definitely by the end of the year I was noticing that it was struggling to keep water out. I treated it with NikWax - following all of the instructions for care of the jacket carefully, but nothing helped, I continued to get wet, every time it rained. I requested a warranty on the jacket which I hate doing, as I know this often results in extra waste. OR was really good about sending me a replacement jacket which they did in June 2024. It is now March 2025, so less than a year later, and I am once again getting wet (in under 10 minutes of being outdoors) with the jacket on. I will try the Nikwax again, but at this point it seems like I'm just wasting money at this point. I am really losing faith in OR's quality as this is the third product that I have bought this year that has not functioned as advertised... It's crushing as all of the production of this poor quality gear is so wasterful...

Great ventilation for waterproof layering

The extended side zippers make this rain jacket incredibly versatile. I tend to run hot, and the front and side zippers make for easy and effective adjustment of ventilation. Three days of hard rain on a 5 day backpacking trip in the Beartooth Range kept me dry the whole time. It is great for 3 seasons, but I would want something more substantial in winter conditions.

Very Good fit. I use this as a daily driver shell for multisport activities. Most of my use so far has been for rain and snow. I live in Bozeman, MT, and Ski Bridger Bowl, where our best terrain is hike accessible. The Forray II has enough ventilation to keep me calm on the uphill while being very windproof and warm for the way down. When it comes to deep snow performance, I find it repels water and snow very well while allowing my body to stay at a cool temp. I would say that the helmet compatibility is good, but it may be a little tight for anyone with an L/XL helmet. Excited to see how it performs on the bike too!

This paired with a good base layer and a mid layer is perfect in most conditions.

Ran bigger than expected, doesn’t keep out water for very long in a down pour but is still an excellent option just not for super technical outdoor work when it’s pouring
