Why We Like The Outdoor Research Freewheel Ride Short
The Freewheel Ride Mountain Bike Shorts from Outdoor Research focus on durable comfort and breathability with a bike-specific fit and trail-ready features. The sturdy four-way stretch fabric is complimented by DuraPrint on the outer hems for extra abrasion resistance in high-wear areas without adding weight or impeding flexibility in the fabric. The higher back waist offers better coverage when seated, and laser perforations in the back yoke increase breathability on warm rides.

Very comfortable & breathable. Pockets are put in a great place, and the seams are much better to ride with than most shorts. The waistband is technically adjustable with a side belt, but the band itself is not made of stretchy material - my only quip is it would be great to have some elasticity in the waistband. Otherwise, great bike shorts for a great price.

My first pair of mountain biking shorts like these and I really like them. Very comfortable with enough stretch and the waistband is adjustable.

Fantastic
I am so stoked that Outdoor Research started a MTB line. These short a great: they're very durable, they have roomy pockets, they hold their own out on the mountain. The vents are nice, they are very stretchy and can accommodate a chamois no problem. One feature I love are the side cinches at the waist. Men's hiking and biking pants always have this feature, but it's really rare to find women's pants or shorts that do, so KUDOS to OR! If it were about 1" thicker that would be perfect, so it would feel more distributed like a belt instead of a cord.

Fav mtn bike shorts to date
Being a plus size rider, it's difficult to find shorts that are comfortable, breathable, have a good stretch, and actually look good. These shorts are all of the above plus some. The pockets are great for phones/keys not much else, which is ideal or else you end up putting everything in there and look like a chipmunk. I do wish they had belt loops. The waste is slightly too big but the legs fit like a dream. They don't slide down too much but I do find myself having to adjust a bit more when stopping for water/looking at a map. But great shorts over all!

Most comfortable biking shorts ever
I've worn many biking shorts in my left, and these are, by far, the best I've ever worn. Sometimes you find that biking shorts are too low on the waist, but I did not have that experience with these shorts. I could reach, bend, and pick things up, all with the shorts staying nicely in place. The waist band on these shorts is super comfortable. There is a little bit if stretch to the entire garment, which helps to make them more comfortable that many other things out there. The snap that closes at the fly is amazing! It snap in place, then slides a little bit to stay secure while active. They are easy to unsnap when needed. There are a couple of excellent sized pockets and one is large enough for my cell phone. These shorts don't stretch out of place and do not sag. They stay looking great all day long. The gloves felt soft, comfortable, and helped me to feel more secure on my ride.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The freewheel ride mountain bike shorts are fantastic. Light and breathable without sacrificing durability. I've been riding with these for a few weeks now and am happy to say they are everything I've come to expect from OR in quality and performance. I liked them so much I ordered the rest of the new mountain biking specific offerings and everything is easily a new favorite! The size chart was spot on for both the shorts and tops. I've worn a lot of OR ferrosi apparel for casual riding, but very happy to see one of my favorite brands putting out mountain bike specific clothing. Bravo!

My new go-to MTB shorts
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a strong Intermediate / Advanced rider who prefers spicy blue and black trails, and the PNW weather where I live keeps me on my toes all year long. The good news? When I took my bike out for a ride in Bellingham, Washington, Outdoor Research's Women's Freewheel Ride Shorts were durable yet breathable and quick to dry as I zipped my way through the muddy woods üåøüåßÔ∏èüö≤ Galbraith Mountain in Washington has so many twisty trail options, and I loved that I could quickly pull out my phone from the low profile pocket of OR's shorts. I could never feel my phone bopping around in the thigh pocket, which other MTB shorts have gotten wrong in the past. Also, no matter how wet the weather got, the synthetic suede palm glove gripped my bike handlebar tight. This PNWer is a big fan of OR's MTB-specific apparel collection. I'm 5'10" and got a size 6, which fits me like a medium. Adjustable tabs on the side of the shorts let me loosen or tighten the fit when paired with liner shorts underneath. The bronze color held up really nicely in the wash after a rainy PNW ride - you can see a before and after laundry shot in the attached photos of the review. Note: Outdoor Research gave me this free product to try in exchange for my honest review.

New Daily Drivers
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
OR has always been my go to for everything outdoor apparel, so I was stoked to see they're making MTB gear now! The Freewheel shorts blow every other pair of shorts I own out of the water. They're true to size, durable (haven't crashed them yet though), and insanely comfortable. The locking snap is really nice too! I'm usually a large in shorts across the board with thick thighs, and the 12 fit perfectly with no gapping in the waist.
