Why We Like The MicroGravity Jacket

Reliable waterproofing and athletically-inclined breathability bolster the Outdoor Research MicroGravity Jacket for most of our mountainous endeavors under rain and snow. It can fend off summer rains on a hike high in the alpine, and it sheds all the snow spraying across your body when you're backcountry touring through fresh powder. Despite its robust waterproof, windproof protection, the MicroGravity's air permeable fabric begins to breathe the moment you put the jacket on. High levels of breathability like this are best used when you're moving fast.

Great shell layer! Just wish it had vents

I wore this on a snow backpacking trip on mount shasta. It held up great over two days with 2 ft of falling snow! Only gripe is that it has no pit vents... for the price, seems like a big omission.

Sizing

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
XXL

I was disappointed in the fit. Following previous comments that it runs small, I ordered a size up. Still too small around the hips but the arm length was far too long - even if the rest of it fit, I would have had to return it. The return process was also cumbersome, having to contact customer service a few times to get a printable label.

Quality OR jacket

OR has continued to impress, this true to size (large) fit perfect with room for insulated layer. Light weight, soft fabric that keeps me dry. Limited pockets which is expected in a light weight jacket, it has your two hand pockets and two exterior access chest pocket for your phone, etc. Highly recommend this jacket. If you're looking for a heavy duty rugged backcountry jacket this likely isn't for you.

The everything jacket

This jacket does everything for me. It's my lightweight rain jacket and also my ski touring jacket. It's durable but also breathes. It fits me just right, 5'8", 150 woman wearing size medium.

Runs small but otherwise great!

I bought this with the intention of it being my main backcountry ski jacket, and not for rain so I can't comment on how well it is waterproof. But personally, it is somewhat of a heavy jacket for rainy warm weather. I loved it today in zero temps with a thin fleece hoody and wool shirt on underneath. I was a little concerned about how the stiff, tall collar would feel on my face, but it was great coverage and roomy enough so my neck gator fit underneath it just fine. I sized up in this jacket because I need to layer and went with XL which meant it was fairly long and covered my bum, but still surprisingly close fitting around the hips which is common for me in OR tops. It is a great weight for cold backcountry ski days, lighter than my older OR Skytour shell but heavier than the Motive. I am posting a photo. Love the color too. In the photo I also have on the insulated Snowcrew ski pants which were toasty on this bitter cold day!

Great jacket

Very comfortable. I would say it runs large. Took it on a 10 day trip where we expected lots of rain. Coverage was great, kept me dry during heavy rain, never felt cold or overheated, and easy to layer underneath. Packs well for travel too.

Lightweight and durable

I live in the PNW and needed something to keep me dry but I could layer. Its a lean fit for female - I sized up to give a little extra room underneath. The fabric keeps me dry no doubt - its your classic goretex fabric that is hard and crinkly but does the job. I wish the coat had a few more pockets but overall a good purchase.

good shell, a little stiff

I like the material, the zippers and fabric are bit stiff. I'm guessing that they will loosen up over time and with more use. I ordered a L because my hips are generous, but it's still a bit snug. Would have liked a two-way zipper.

Great jacket

A medium weight jacket (compared to the helium) water proof and warm. Worked well in Glacier National Park when rain turned into snow.
