Trailbreaker II Softshell Pant
The Outdoor Research Trailbreaker II Softshell Pant is designed for high-output winter travel. Whether you're on the skin track or boot packing to the summit, the softshell construction keeps you mobile, comfortable, and protected from the elements. In fact, the lower legs are constructed with a three-layer Pertex Shield membrane to provide you with waterproof protection when you're breaking trail. The upper part of the pant is water-resistant to still provide weather protection while remaining breathable to keep you comfortable on the ascent. Zippered thigh vents aid in keeping you cool while moisture-wicking ActiveTemp at the waist enhances comfort. Overall, the material is abrasion-resistant to withstand the rigors of mountain travel while reinforced scuff guards at the hem offer added protection from your crampons and ski edges to keep the pant in top shape throughout many seasons.

Comfortable softshell pants
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
These are a great snow pant shell. They are super comfortable and seem to run true to size. I love all the vents which allow for different degrees of cooling off. The fabric is soft, stretchy, and forgiving as well. They are perfect for a nice day boarding/skiing on the slopes or for wearing on a winter snowshoe hike. I highly recommend these!

Perfect for winter walking
Fit was perfect. Lots of pockets and room for storage. Lightweight yet warm for winter walks. Love it!

Stretchy perfection
Perfect fit, move with you in the right places, and all the pockets/extras I could wish for in my backcounty pant.

Perfect, minus offering a short size
Absolutely love these pants! Purchased them for backcountry skiing, have used them a few times and they are perfect. Offered good wind protection and snow/ water protection, all while not being too hot climbing or too cold descending (weather has been around 20 degrees F, cloudy, and periodic bursts of high wind). With my ski boots on, the pants are a fair length, but being 5' 3" they are not as comfortable to wear just around town and the inside of the thigh pocket falls a bit too low for me (when I put my phone in it, I felt it too close to my knee to be comfortable). Regardless, the material seems durable, the fit was true to size - fitted but not too tight and has a good amount of stretch for easy mobility. They adjustable waste band is also a great feature to customize the fit. Very excited to keep using these pants as they are my new staple for backcountry winter activities!

Great product but I wish it came in a short length!!
These overall seem wonderful and I look forward to getting a ton of use out of them this season. HOWEVER, especially with this style of product where the zippers/gaiter prevent straightforward alteration there really really needs to be a shorter inseam option! Tons of women have shorter inseams but still can't wear a size "small"

I've been using these for everything from driving zodiacs to hiking in the forest. I love them! They could be a bit more waterproof for those super wet days, but they are overall my favorite outer layer pant.

Fits Well + Performs Well
I usually struggle to find pants that fit my butt but also my waist- these are stretchy and have velcro adjustments for the waist to get a perfect fit. They're stretchy on top for comfort for long days of touring but have waterproof fabric at the knees and below to keep you dry.

Had to return
I have large thighs and these did not work for me. Very tight around the thighs!!! I tried the XL but they were too big. I found a pair of bibs from another company that work well instead. OR needs some curvy sized bottoms! Otherwise they seemed like nice pants.

10/10 pant - wont buy anything else again.
I love these shell pants. They are great for ski touring as they dont insulate too much but provide a good amount of water repellency and durability. I still fall quite a bit as im newer to skiing and these keep me nice and dry and I dont worry about them ripping or tearing even if I fall into a bush or scrap against a tree. I love the removable ankle cuffs, and the pockets on these are great. The higher waist at the back is great for when im squatting or sitting to keep my back better protected!

Great pair of pants for trail breaking
I love these pants so far! I've used them 5 times for backcountry touring and they are cute, very comfortable, reasonably warm but also breathable, and the vents are great. I like the adjustable hip belt for a snug fit. My beacon fits in my front or back thigh pocket.
