Why We Like The Outdoor Research Vigor Bottom

Frozen winter days on the mountain call for an extra layer to stay toasty while we wait for the lift. The Outdoor Research Vigor Bottom provides high-performance heat thanks to its thermo-regulating ActiveTemp treatment and grid-backed fleece design. The pants are ready for laps on the mountain or a run around the neighborhood, wicking sweat away and stretching to mirror our movement no matter how many miles we rack up on the day.

Disappointed , but please read why.

I ordered a pair of XL black and another pair of XL in grey. After wearing both for running and around the house, I washed both in the same load of laundry and dried in the same dryer. The black pair shrunk one size in length (roughly one inch) and a half size in thigh area. Waist stayed the same. The grey pair stayed true to size. I ordered a second pair of grey and have worn and washed them both with no change. Not sure if the black pair was a one off, or if they were made in a different plant or if it has something to do with the dye. The grey pants are awesome! Great for trail runs down to 20 (though I recommend wearing something under for protection 😉). I’m 6’2” 215lbs 36w by 34.5 inseam. Side pocket is nice and keeps light items from bouncing around or pulling your pants down.

Great Base Layer

I use this primarily as a base layer for cold weather activities. Also under waders or a drysuit. The current version is much better than the older version which fit far too tight. The repositioned pocket is great. The one thing that should be incorporated is a fly which makes it much easier when using this as a base layer.

Holy Comfy

This fleece layer is good as an underlayer or outer layer with sufficient stretch to ensure movements remain uninhibited. Great for running, skiing, etc. It's also hard to beat on a cold day by the fire. After receiving one, I ordered two more pairs with variations in sizing for a slightly different fit. Normal sizing is a skin fit for athletic builds.

Perfect winter running leggings

These are my favorite slightly relaxed leggings for running under about 45 degrees. They're just snug enough to feel streamlined when running fast, stay warm in Seattle's cold winter rain, and deal well with sweat and body heat under high exertion like during track workouts and hill repeats. I thought the previous version was a 4/5 due to a too-tight waistband and an inconvenient pocket placement down by the knee. This new version fixes those issues with a waistband that has great stretch and a pocket that is moved up to the waist to minimize bounce of a phone, cards, or energy gels.

Way too long...way too tight.

I purchased these to wear in extreme cold weather, over two layers of merino wool 250 g/m underlayers and beneath OR hardshell bibs. I thought I understood what "trim fit" meant. I didn't think it was a trim fit for a starving famine refugee. Even worse, they are about four inches (10 cm) too long. I rated them three stars because I can still use them when worn as a base layer over nothing and assuming I can roll up the leg bottoms into makeshift cuffs. I do not recommend this product.
