Why We Like The Outdoor Research Vigor Grid Fleece Full-Zip Hooded Jacket
We've gotten pretty good at layering and delayering during our high-intensity pursuits, but it's also nice to have a versatile layering piece that regulates our temperature and moisture for us—like Outdoor Research's Vigor Grid Fleece Full-Zip Hooded Jacket. The Vigor features a light grid fleece that both traps warm air against our body while also letting heat and moisture escape when our exertion level goes up. On top of that, it features OR's ActiveTemp polymer against our skin, which actively adjusts to our temperature as our activity level changes to regulate our body temperature and the microclimate under the jacket. That's a lot of tech packed into a mid-layer fleece—tech that keeps us comfortable and cuts down on the time we spend adding or subtracting layers as we hike, climb, ski, or ride. The Vigor also wears well as a casual top or outer layer in milder weather.

I have worn Medium across every brand for the last 20 years and the medium vigor fleece I received from Backcountry was the tightest fitting one ever, and I am a thin guy. It was not even near a medium and I could barely zip it up. Pretty disappointed for the price I paid. I've never had this issue with OR or any outdoor brand.

My Favorite Hoodie
I have a couple of these from a few years ago which I wear almost every day. They are comfortable and the fit is perfect! The one I just ordered is even better than the original as I prefer the material and I also think the fit is improved.

Not a fan of the redesign
Redesign for 2024 is disappointing. I own 3 of these and love them. Thought I'd pick up another one on sale. The new version no longer has YKK zippers, nor the cool reinforced sleeve by the wrists. All of the pockets now have mesh instead of fabric. I understand these production cuts were likely due to inflation, but it is disappointing.

Mismatch if airy fabric and heavy zippers/seams
I wanted to love this - I have an old grid fleece piece from another brand but it’s pullover so I wanted a full zip. But this just didn’t work. The seams and zippers are too robust for the very light and airy fabric, and so it feels clunky. This fabric is amazingly breathable but the zips and seams thing was a dealbreaker. OR puts out lots of great pieces, this one just missed it for me!

Simple and Effective!
The Vigor fleece is a very nice light weight piece of equipment. Worn either by itself or as a mid layer, it gets the job done. It holds heat and moderates body temperature very well. It has the pockets you need and none that you don't.

Favorite fleece for climbing and hiking
I love this fleece. I had a previous version which I have owned for many years and put it through the wringer, it’s still holding up just fine. I grabbed this new version on sale and have to say it even has several improvements, notably the sleeve cuffs are less bulky and the zippers function more smoothly. Well done OR!

Can't Go Wrong
This fleece is amazingly comfortable. This is my second one. I'll admit the orange is bright. I'm definitely noticeable when I hike.

Excellent fleece
Great lightweight mid layer. Thumb holes are a plus. I have the pull over also, better for cold weather with high neck coverage.

Sized a little smaller than comparable OR so go 1 size up!
I like the hoodie as a base/mid layer but it is definitely tight in my shoulders, short in arms. I usually wear a M in comparable items from OR but I should’ve gotten the L. Haven’t gotten out BC skiing yet in it or anything. Works good climbing til I reach up.😉

great hoody for dusty trail rides
Fit me great. I wear it on bicycle rides and wear it over a base shirt. Size is perfect. Don't be like dusty stay trim my friends.
