I'd been looking for a parka for years, and this one fit the bill! It has the length i was looking for, a detachable hood, inside pocket, and double zipper.. I'm definitely warmer and better protected from the wind in this parka vs my pea coat. We in the Pacific Northwest don't have hard winters, but there are stretches that get quite cold, and I'm glad to have this parka to see me warmly through.

My wife is always cold and we decided a long warm down coat was in order. The recent cold weather over the last few weeks validated our choice of the Downdrift.

subpar jacket

Patagonia is a great brand. This jacket is subpar. First and biggest issue is the fabric. It has kind of a rough feel to it, like camping gear or tent material on the outside. Not a deal breaker but not a soft or luxe feel when you hold it. But the worst thing is that it picks up lint like you wouldn't believe. Like the black jacket I bought (which was way more of a gray than a black) was literally covered in lint when I took it to the store. And it was stuck on, I was so embarrassed. I couldn't wait to find a lint roller (which did the trick, but why make a jacket which you wear all the time like that?) Second issue was how tight the neck snaps were. I am usually a small but have been ordering mediums now as I get older as I like a looser fit. It was like an xsmall neck collar on a medium jacket. I'm 5'5, skinny. Who are they making this collar for? It was very uncomfortable. PAtagonia really needs to figure out better fabric alternatives and sizing for average size women. Luckily I was able to exchange this jacket for something I love from another brand. Thank you, Backcountry!

I wanted to write a review on this parka because I struggled with choosing the right size. I’m 5’0” and 110 lbs. While I’m petite, I prefer my coats to have some extra room. I own the shorter version of this coat in a medium, which fits great. After reading several reviews about this longer style, I ordered a small, but it was too large. I exchanged it for an extra small, which fits perfectly while still allowing some extra room.

I LOVE this coat!! It is my favorite winter coat that I’ve ever had. I live in Northern Illinois so it gets pretty cold in the winters and this coat keeps me very warm. I love that there are two zippers so it doesn’t have to zip all the way down if you don’t want it to. The pockets are great too because there is an outside pocket that doesn’t have a cover where you can throw a phone or gloves quickly but then there is also a second part to the pocket that is covered so that smaller things don’t fall out. I stick a lot of stuff in my coat pockets so this is another added benefit that I really like. The hood is perfect. It’s not too big or bulky but still gets the job done and buttons closed so that it doesn’t fly off. The material is great too because if it gets dirty, it wipes clean real easy with just a wet paper towel, no scrubbing required. Lastly, I am 5’5 145 pounds with somewhat of a wider waist. I sometimes have trouble zipping coats and jackets but not this one at all, and it still looks great! I bought a size small. I’ve had this coat for about a month and have already decided that I am buying this same exact coat when it’s time to buy a new one. I’ve never had a better winter coat!!

It seemed really warm and was high quality! My major issues were that the sleeves were a little too short for my taste (the wrist inserts with thumb holes would have helped) and that the hood was too small (can’t put it up if my hair is in a ponytail). Also, I have a bigger butt and so it was loose everywhere except my hips, so it looked odd if I zipped it up.

I am so warm and comfortable in this jacket. I highly recommend as it fits great even with a vest or sweater underneath. Best purchase of 2024.

I’m wearing this parka for over a month now daily and I can say it is the best parka I ever had. It is very warm, waterproof enough, lightweight and looks great.

Boxy, uncomfortable material, no stretch. Hood is weird and has flaps that won’t snap to the jacket, aside from the back area so it’s all up in your face. The color is NOT a smolder blue. It’s navy blue. Outer material feels crunchy and just ugly in general
