Good pants, but no gusset in crotch

I bought the same paramount pant over a year ago and loved them. I bought another pair this year because I liked the first so much. Unfortunately, Patagonia changed up the design and there is now no gusset in the crotch. For the life of me I cannot figure out why they got rid of that design. They aren't bad pants, but they are less comfortable then they used to be. Disappointed to see a $100 pair of Patagonia without the gusset.
