Why We Like The Patagonia Storm Shift Jacket
On the hill, we move comfortably and stay dry with the help of Patagonia's PFC-free Storm Shift Jacket. The simple design of the outside of the jacket hides a high-performance GORE-TEX shell made with recycled materials and provides protection without the use of perfluorinated chemicals. The weatherproof shell, body-mapped cut, and zig-zagged fleece lining ensure snow stays out, sweat gets wicked, and we can pole plant, slash, and carve comfortably.

Great except…
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- Medium
I bought this last month and have skied 20 days in it so far. Only 2 minor bits. The hood and collar are the major ones. With the hood up over a helmet, the front of the hood barely covers my Smith helmet. There should have been a peak with a bit of a bill sticking out over the goggles. Also there is no fleece inside of the high collar so the edge of the collar rubs on your face unless you’re wearing a balaclava to protect your chin. My only other issue, and everone else seems guilty of this these days— no 2 way zipper. I don’t know why companies have abandoned this on shells, but it annoys me. Now the good. The jacket is durable, not noisy, has some nice minor insulation in front, and has good pockets. I enjoy it for skiing but wood enjoy it more with a few simple changes. It didn’t come in many solid colors, though it did come in a few two-tone colors which are not my thing. I would have preferred more solid color choices. I’ 5’10”, 175 lb and got a medium which is just right to allow me to wear a down hoodie under it on cold days.

Patagonia Storm Shift Jacket
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
- Size Bought:
- Large
- Height:
- 6' 1"
- Weight:
- 190
The Patagonia Storm Shift jacket was a disappointment and I sent it back within an hour. The upper sleeves are not large enough and as a result my fleece was binding in the under arms area. The hood could not be adjusted tight around my head allowing wind and cold air to enter. Why are all of these ski jackets designed for a helmet to be inside the hood making the hood too big? The zipper was difficult or impossible to use.
