Great casual/flat pedal commuter shoes

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These are my go-to winter flat pedal and casual shoe. They keep my feet dry in mild drizzle or walking around in slush, and are high enough to prevent water from splashing and dripping down my ankle. Compared to another mid-height casual shoe, like a Converse Check Taylor, the sole is much more supportive for riding a commuter bike with flat pedals, or standing around in a work setting. Not made for running or walking long distances, but daily wear to the office with a chilly bike commute they are perfect. The sole isn't crazy grippy, so I wouldn't wear these for trail/enduro/dh riding, but the sole does last longer than a FiveTen if you're going to wear them off the bike. Two other reviewers have achilles issues with this shoe. I find that if I snug the velcro strap, they will cause pressure on the back of my ankle. That pressure lessened after I broke them in, but it is still noticeable. I leave the velcro strap almost as loose as it can go, and that works perfectly for casual wear. Secure enough so the cuff isn't flopping around, but loose enough that I have full range of motion without pressure or pain. I only tighten the velcro strap for commuter rides when my foot doesn't flex forward. Maybe someone with thicker ankles would be unable to avoid the achilles pressure. Maybe Pearl could make that strap longer to better accommodate larger ankle sizes. The boa dial keeps the lower portion of the shoe secure through the day, although the tongue does migrate to one side with walking. Thankfully the tongue has waterproof gussets on each side so that doesn't leave the top of my foot exposed. Pearl has these on final sale on their site, so I fear this model is getting chopped. My photo is what the shoes look like today Jan 15 2025, 3 winters after purchase Feb 2022. The canvas on the toe doesn't repel water anymore, but I just need to wax/seal it. The rest of the shoe is easy to wipe clean of mud, road salt, and dirt. This pair is still going strong, but I'm here to pick up another pair before they're gone for good. I'm a true US12.0, and I'm right between an EU46-46.5 in this shoe. I went for 46.5 so there would be room for thermal socks. I'll go for the EU46 for my second pair. Very unique casual/flat pedal shoe. It'll be a pity to see them go.

Kinda bad for daily wear...

I ride clipless pedals; I don't ride with this shoes, so I bought it as my everyday shoes. It is not comfortable, as Keith mentioned, it rubbed the back of your foot and up (around tendons). I found that this feeling might go away if I tight both straps in a loose way. This is not the main issue that made me walk uncomfortable, it is the areas around your joints. I used to have the crankbrother flat pedal shoes, and that shoes was way more comfortable than this unfortunately...

They Rub Your Achilles Tendon

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was excited to try a brand other then 5Ten on my flats. These looked cool and I like the way they tension vs laces. I put them on and went for a ride and they rub my achilles tendon like crazy. I literally can't wear them and they sit in the corner.
