Review on the PIEPS PRO IPS
As someone who spends a lot of time in the backcountry, I’ve come to rely on the PIEPS PRO IPS avalanche beacon as an essential part of my safety kit. After months of field use in varying conditions—deep powder, tight tree lines, and rugged alpine terrain—I can confidently say this beacon is worth every penny. The first time I used it in a real-world rescue training scenario, I was blown away by how fast and precise it was. The 60-meter range is no joke—I picked up signals quicker than others in my group using different models. The directional arrows were spot-on, guiding me efficiently to the target, and the distance readout was incredibly accurate. In a multiple burial simulation, the marking function worked like a charm, allowing me to isolate signals and focus on one victim at a time without confusion. One feature that really stood out is the Proximity Sensor. During a particularly challenging scenario in a tight gully, the beacon adjusted seamlessly to the changing signal environment, ensuring I stayed on track. This kind of adaptability is something I didn’t even know I needed until I saw it in action.

Innovative design and capabilities.
This is easily the strongest entry in the Transceiver market in recent years. The IPS technology helps to mitigate the interference by caused by the things I always carry with me (watch, phone etc) to boost the signal power in send mode. I really like the fold out antennae which is functional and explicitly indicates which mode the transceiver is in while having the dual function of supporting DASP which support more advanced processing of the incoming signal when in Search Mode. It is the same weight as my other transceiver, and is a compact but solid package. Excited to add this to my safety controls. Note, my unit came from BD with the recall issues already addressed.

Great tech, minor issues
The usability and customization options via the app are fantastic, and the real-time feedback about interference and usable search width are great. THe buttons are small and almost impossible to use with gloves, so that could be improved for sure, and I'm still not used to the harness either. I 'think' I prefer the holster type harness of the BD Guide/Recon more than this rigid one with a bungee-type retention.

The packaging of the product is bad.
It is a new product, but there were many scratches due to movement and friction inside the box. It doesn't feel like I bought a new one. The beacon should have been packed in a plastic bag or something and then in the box. Also, I put in a new battery that I had after opening it, but it didn't turn on. There was a problem with the battery contacts, and I solved it by slightly stretching the spring. However, I thought it was not a fundamental solution, but a recall was announced. I want a refund.

What we’ve been waiting for
The IPS represents (IMHO) the biggest jump in beacon technology we’ve seen in recent memory. After having the chance to practice with and experiment with the IPS in conjunction with other beacons, the interference mitigation is truly unbelievable. Not only is it astounding how much impact the various devices and items I carry with me daily impact beacon performance, but it’s even more astounding that the IPS is the only offering that truly addresses these issues head on. The 80 meter search strip width is ridiculous, with a perfect coupling dialing in at really more like 90 meters in tests. This thing really is the next step towards a new generation of beacons.

Excellent Product
I am a ski patroller and need the best avalanche gear available. I have used Pieps for quite a while and was excited about this new IPS model. A friend and I both bought them, and have given them extensive testing - it is as good as they claim. The only problem the buttons are hard to push with gloves.

Amazing!
I was able to utilize this transceiver last season. I used it in an AIARE Avy 1 Course and the Rescue Course. I was able to pick up the signal of a buried beacon at 80 meters. The other students thought their transceivers were broken. This bad boy is a game changer! Well worth the money. You absolutely will not be disappointed. It’s easy to use and accurate. Get one now!
