Why We Like The Pivot Mach 4 SL Pro X0 T-Type Carbon Wheel Mountain Bike
Lining up at the starting line or finding the fastest lines through the local singletrack, the Pivot Mach 4 SL was designed to blur the lines between a purebred race machine and a capable cross-country bike. Pushing the boundaries to make the Mach 4 SL to be more capable, Pivot re-imagined what a cross-country race bike could be and slackened the head tube, steepened the seat tube, lengthened the chainstays, reach, and wheelbase, all while shaving weight by nearly a pound from the previous model's frame. The Mach 4 SL also features a new rocker link incorporating a flip chip for adjustable travel. Now equipped with 106mm of premium DW-Link suspension over the previous 100mm, the Mach 4 SL is more capable than ever and also gives us the option of changing to 115MM when we flip the chip in the shock link, allowing us to easily change our ride to better suit the terrain. With a 66.7-degree head tube angle when equipped with a 120mm fork, the head tube angle is much slacker compared to the previous model, allowing us to be more composed and confident when descending.
The Pro X0 Transmission AXS Carbon Wheel build of the Pivot Mach 4 SL is race-ready and is equipped with some of the best components on the market. First, Pivot's premium carbon frame is now stronger and stiffer while simultaneously being lighter weight shedding 280 grams from the previous iteration of the Mach 4. Next, SRAM's X0 Transmission AXS drivetrain provides flawless electronic shifting that can even shift under load and has a near-bombproof design for extended durability. For race-ready wheels, Pivot slapped on the Reynolds Blacklabel rims paired with Industry Nine Hydra hubs to give us a top-tier wheelset that excels on the trails. A Fox Factory 34 Step-Cast fork with 120mm of travel is lightweight and helps to keep us under control as we are bombing for the finish line. A Fox Factory Float rear shock is a bigger volume shock over the standard Fox DPS and gives us more small bump sensitivity and a smoother ride. A handlebar-mounted SRAM TwistLoc grip allows us to easily lock out our shock, stiffening up our rear end to climb with maximum efficiency. Rounding this build off, Maxxis Ardent Race tires keep the weight and rolling resistance to a minimum while providing excellent bite and traction, allowing us to fly into berms at race speed.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level.
