Why We Like The Rab Downpour Light Jacket

When we are hiking and get hit with a sudden downpour, we stay protected with the Rab Downpour Light Jacket. Featuring a 2.5-layer construction and complete with a stretch woven nylon fabric, the Downpour Light Jacket is super comfortable, completely waterproof and windproof, and stays breathable so we stay comfortable. An adjustable hood allows us to stay covered up when it starts to pour, and extended cuffs with a hook-and-loop closure makes for a comfortable fit to keep out the cold wind. Two zippered hannd pockets allow us to store our essentials securely, and a rear hem adjustment cinches up the bottom of the jacket to keep our warmth in.

Waterproof means the water doesn’t

Waterproof means the water doesn’t soak through the jacket not getting absolutely drenched from light rain.

Love the jacket. Exactly what

Love the jacket. Exactly what I wanted. A lightweight throw on for gentle hiking that could be carried in a small shoulder bag or even a pocket that can be whipped out for protection in a jiffy if the rain came.

Good fit for summer use.

Good fit for summer use. Patches of apparent water absorption on the outer surface made me suspicious about water penetration, but none was apparent on the inner surface.

The jacket is very nice

The jacket is very nice to look at. I got the black one, the water proofing seems to be doing a fine job so far. No water through yet. It also folds up nice and small. The website seems to indicate it’s heavily wind proof, I strongly disagree with this. In high winds there’s definitely lack in performance. I noticed the cheaper model has pit zips for ventilation but this model doesn’t despite costing more, but if a shame. The pull cord found in the hood which tightens it around your head, sits right on the ear…not very comfortable at all. Personally wouldn’t recommend. Spend that bit more and find something GORTEX.

So far so good

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
XL
Height:
6' 2"
Weight:
230

First, as an FYI, light khaki isn’t khaki, it’s olive green. I happen to like the green better, so I’m not disappointed, but color is misleading. Very lightweight jacket. Fit is perfect. I am 6’2” and 230lbs. XL is ideal. Not bulky like some XL, rather athletic cut. Sleeve length is adequate for longer arms. The only thing I don’t love is the feel of the liner against my arms when wearing short sleeves. Sorta rubber feeling.

The perfect lightweight jacket

Honestly, this is such an awesome jacket. Bought it to have stashed in my back pack for light summer hill walks, but actually this is even great in current rainy and windy conditions and about 8 degrees / feels like 4. Would definitely recommend!
