Tight fitting size

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I received the Jacket via FED Ex at 12:32, and by 2:22 I shipped it back to Backcounty.com. I have two RAB jackets, the rab microlight alpine jacket and the rab cirrus flex 2.0, both are XXL size. I ordered a XXL size Downpour Plus 2.0 rain jacket. After trying it on it was more on the slim fitting and not regular fitting in size. My other two RABs are not as tight as the Downpour Rain jacket. I also have a Marmot PreCip in XXL and a OR Helium Rain Ultralight Jacket in XXL, both have more room than the Downpour. If a Jacket is XXL it needs to be regular fitting with some room.

Good fit if you buy the right size

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
M

Overall the Backcountry customer service is the best. I got the Rab Downpour Plus 2 jacket in a Medium. I'm 5'9" 170 lbs. It didn't fit right. I called the customer service rep to see if I could swap out the jacket for a Large. They provided a prepaid Fedex shipping label to return the M and at the same time sent me the L. The large fits great and I've used it twice in the rain and it seems to be fine. The front zipper lays down close to the jacket and requires you to give a little extra attention when you zip the jacket up. Not a deal breaker. I like the color, the fit and length. Btw, the jacket dropped in price twice during this time and the customer service was so kind to refund me that delta.

Waterproof, packs small, good features BUT if fits very large

First things first: the ones saying that this jacket is not waterproof must have bought a fake one. I've used mine while cycling to work and 30 minutes at speed gets the same amount of rain when walking two hours. I was perfectly dry and didn't sweat because of the jacket. That's good, although time will tell how long the waterproofing will last. It sounds like the perfect jacket, right? Well, no, because it is described as "regular fit" but in reality if fits very large. I've got a Medium size one. At 11.5st (73kg) and 5ft 9" (179cm) I'm not skinny nor overweight, a moderate fit body type I'd say. And yet, this jacket fits VERY large indeed: I can wear the heaviest fleece and an empty 20lt daypack under this jacket. No joke. It is that large in a Medium size. I cannot buy a Small size because it would be way too short at the hem and the sleeves. So here it is, a very nice jacket that's proving to be very waterproof and with a fabric that's comfortable, plus good size pockets and hood, but it fits too large. I would suggest to make this model in a more streamlined fit, and leave this very relaxed fit for the cheaper "Downpour Eco" model.

Shockingly Bad Performance from RAB

After much research and being a huge fan of RAB products for the past 15 years, I purchased the RAB 2.0 Downpour jacket in October 2023 as a waterproof jacket mainly for walking the dogs. After being outside this morning for just 39 minutes in moderate rain I returned soaked through on the shoulders, arms and head. The hood was completely useless, the only thing that kept me dry was my old RAB waterproof cap worn underneath the hood. The DWR finish seems to be non existent and the jacket wets through after just a few minutes. Not as described, would definitely not recommend spending hard earned money on a jacket that isn't fit for purpose.

Great waterproof jacket

I walk to the office and return every day, 7 miles a day... This is why I needed a good waterproof jacket. This is an excellent choice. Very light so I can carry it in my rucksack. It does get a bit wet inside, you may feel slightly wet inside but it is really superficial. Walking under showers for one hour without problem. The only 'cons' , it is really warm inside in late spring and summer at say temperature above 15 C.

Not at all waterproof.

First time I wore this coat it wetted out. I had faith in the Rab brand but didn't check the coat properly before heading to Patagonia. I've now got a 5 day trek ahead of me where there will be rain, and this coat will let me down.

Not Impressed

Fits well, nice feel to the fabric, however the material wets out very quickly, I have worn this on a number of occasions recently where the fabric has wetted out within minutes of leaving the house. Fortunately these have been trips to the shops and not somewhere that I require a decent level of protection. I am planning on reproofing next to see if there is any improvement in performance, however having seen other reviews here I am not hopeful.

Great jacket, nice fit and does what it promises.

I run warm and didn't need or want a heavier outer shell. This does the job beautifully. Pack friendly, lightweight but robust, breathes nicely with help from pit zips and does a great job of keeping the rain off when needed. I sized up slightly. I am midway between a L & XL with a 44" chest and a rugby players shoulders and neck. The XL fits perfectly with room for a mid-weight layer. Cinches in nicely and has a great hood. Perfect for hiking which is my thing.

Looks Good when dry.....but wets out

On looking for a lightweight packable waterproof the Downpour Plus 2 jacket ticked all my technical boxes, but it was the fit and colour that convinced me to part with my money. I purchased the jacket in March and on it's first outing in light drizzle it 'crinkled' where it had got a bit wet. I put this down to newness so went out again a few weeks later in the rain and it crinkled all over and wetted out. I emailed Rab who kindly informed me about reproofing (a process I've done many times before) but failed to answer the question of why a new jacket should need reproofing by a customer when it should have been done in the manufacturing process. Rab emailed to say they would inspect the jacket if I sent it back (at my cost) but it would take 4 weeks for them to review.... I took the alternative option and returned it to Cotswold who (after looking at the pictures I'd shown Rab) agreed that it had wetted out and agreed to refund or replace. They did have a replacement in stock so I took this option. Due to an excellent summer the replacement jacket had it's first use in October on a water ride at the Asterix Theme Park......and the results are the same. A wetted out crinkled jacket..... Probably too late to return again to Cotswold, so I'll wash and reproof a jacket that has been warm once and hope it makes it useable.

Wets out badly from new, the fit is fantastic

I've use this for 6 months, infrequently. The fit is great and it's lightweight plus comfortable. Contrary to some other reviewers preferences I like the neck fitting once zipped up as I like a high neck on a jacket. I love everything about it except the outer fabric treatment. The DWR seems not to work at all - the water beads for a few seconds but then soaks in right away. Even when new the jacket fabric would just soak up water with the lightest drizzle, it is almost like the DWR wasn't applied (but of course I'm sure it was) and if anything it's worse at 6 months old with 10 or so uses. My wife has the previous version of this jacket and it's great, the DWR works as one would expect with the difference being like night and day, with her jacket being older. Bizarre. I tried the usual aftermarket waterproofing products but it's still not great. I am not sure if this issue is due to the newer eco DWR or just my jacket specifically.
