Why We Like The Rab Mythic Alpine Jacket
Ultralight, warm, and packable—the Rab Mythic Alpine Down Jacket ticks all the boxes that matter for our fast and light mountain missions. The Pertex Quantum ripstop fabric keeps our weight down while providing abrasion-resistance, and the 900-fill power goose down delivers a ridiculous warmth-to-weight ratio while packing down small to take up a little pack room as possible. With a slim fit and low bulk, the Mythic layers well under a shell, pack, or harness while the articulated fit and baffles keep our arms free for easier climbing, skiing, and mountaineering movements.

Warm jacket
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- XL
I was let down for the price point. One of the collars won't stay back and seems to be a defect in how the jacket was made so it can only sit if it's hitting my chin when the jacket is open. Then the jacket holds stink worse than any piece of clothing I've ever owned. It's super warm and light but it doesn't pack into itself. I thought I'd light it more than a jacket I paid 1/3 the price for buy I'm just let down by the experience wearing the jacket

GO WITH RAB

I've owned a number of highly technical jackets from various suppliers over the past 20+ years including Marmot; Patagonia, North Face, a Berghaus or 2 (UK) and Jack Wolfskin (Germany) in all types of weather. My primary use has been hiking and urban exploration. I cannot really fault any of these jackets as they all performed adequately when I used them sensibly. But there have been a couple of times things went rather badly. Auschwitz-Berkenau is one cold mother in Mid-Winter and the Scottish Highlands can be quite challenging as well. I've learned to layer, especially if doing some urban traipsing in and out of shops in cold weather where outside temps are below freezing but stores have the heat cranked up to just under cremate. But I've said all of that to say this- You absolutely cannot go wrong with RAB down jackets for light weight warmth with great breathability. My first RAB was the Electron Pro with 800 fill down. It finally gave up the ghost after around 5 years of heavy use and being tossed about rather unceremoniously. I tried a Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket and while it was warm, it shed down like crazy. Never really had much of a problem with that using the RABs. I purchase this RAB Mythic Down Jacket a couple of weeks ago and while I can't speak to its long-term durability, man is it ever sweet! So light & warm! Blocks the wind very well and is an awesome fit that allows me to throw on a light rain shell over it if it starts to pour. Yes, it is expensive but given my history with RAB, I'm convinced it is well worth the money. If you prefer a little looser fit, the Electron is also a great choice. Either way, you'll have less need for multiple layers in most instances with a RAB 800/900 fill Down jacket. I'll try and update some in a few months once it's been given a proper workout, but I could not be more pleased thus far! I honestly believe RAB is at the forefront of Down Insulated technical jacket production & takes a back seat to no one, not even Canada Goose!

Horrible stitching, terrible durability.

This jacket has super loose stitches, down leaks constantly. Also, this has some of the least durable 10d nylon I've ever felt. My ghost whisperer has better durability than this jacket does. The only reason I even gave it a 3 star is its super warm.
