Why We Like The Rab Mythic Ultra Jacket
The Mythic Ultra Jacket packs in the heat without piling on the weight. Rab thoughtfully crafted this ultra-warm down insulator with 900-fill hydrophobic down insulation for unbeatable warmth at a minimal weight. The Pertex Quantum face fabric keeps wind and weather at bay, and its as packable as the down insulation, allowing the jacket to fit neatly into the included stuff sack. New to Rab, and possible most technical of all, is the Thermo Ionic Lining Technology—or TILT—that sits between the down and the body, reflecting heat for maximum thermal efficiency.

So not sure where I bought it, REI or Backcountry, but I do have the jacket. Can't say enough good things about it. Constantly kept me warm in the teens. The fit is on point. I would say you could use this hiking or just wandering around town. Won't layer with a shell, too puffy. My only quibble is that the outer fabric is a thin denier. I was drunk in Burlington, Vt and in a fit of drama I threw myself on the sidewalk and rolled around quite a bit. Upon review the next morning I noticed two holes in the elbow with down leaking out of it. Tenacious tape took care of it just fine. Overall the weight to warmth ratio is superb. Comes with a stuff sack that packs it down to the size of a cantaloupe. If you are looking for a jacket that will withstand bushwhacking or eight double IPAs, this isn't it. If you are looking for a lightweight jacket that keeps you warm at zero....this is it. Would buy again and likely will.

Very warm, light and versatile

I purchased this for winter and took it on a trip to Hokkaido / Niseko Japan. My bags got lost so I had to use it as a ski jacket. Worked great. Very warm and wind / water resistant. Quick drying. Probably the only drawback is that it’s rather large and hard to pack with the stuff sack and does not pack into a pocket. But I’ve got many other jackets that do that so it’s fine with me. When I need an ultra warm jacket for very cold places, this is my go to jacket. Love the gray/orange color way which is what I purchased.

Warm Jacket
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I purchased this recently for an up-coming trip to Greenland. Purchased size MEDIUM. I have tried it on and it fits well. I am 5'-8", 170lbs, 32"-waist and the coat fits correctly The coat has adequate room to be worn over a medium fleece and shell. I have not field tested yet because it is a very warm coat and the temps in the mid-Atalntic have been too warm. It is very compresable and appears to be quality construction.

I use this for my walks and winter temps down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Not as bully as the Positron pro that I picked up before. Time will tell how durable it is. I'm 5'11.5, 178 lbs with a 32 inch waist and 44 inch chest. The medium is perfect for me when keeping 1 or 2 max slim layers. Adding more than that would make it too snug for me.

I returned it straight away.
I returned it straight away. I did not like how you could see the darker feathers, it looked like a pillow without a pillow case

Bizarre fit; beware Rab's fake reviews

So, I posted a review of this jacket on Rab's website. They took it down. I emailed and asked them why, and they said "we felt it was a personal opinion." In other words, they delete critical reviews of their products and only show you fake reviews and positive reviews! How sleazy! Anyway, this is well-made but horribly tailored jacket. It tapers severely from the chest to the hem. You can see it on the model, and on anybody wearing this jacket in online reviews: the fabric is slack around the chest and stretched taut around the hips/waist. The down gets compressed, which defeats the purpose. I am not at all overweight. I'm between small and medium and I bought a medium. Still too tight for a down jacket. Sizing up won't help because the chest area would be an empty bag. Forget about layering anything underneath. Also, the main zipper is good but the pocket zippers are flimsy. Too bad because there aren't many 900fp jackets out there, and this one has a good amount of down and would be very warm if it weren't tapered so weirdly that the down gets compressed. If you have a 45-inch chest and a 25-inch waist, it will probably fit well.

Toasty!
A superlight, very packable and incredibly warm jacket. My only gripe is the hood which needs a volume adjuster - worn without a helmet , if you turn your head you can only see the inside of your hood!
