Why We Like The Iron Ranger 6in Boot

The Iron Ranger Boots have been protecting the feet of miners for more than a century, so we feel good about them protecting ours, too. Oil-tanned leather comprises the upper for added protection, while the leather insole conforms to our foot's natural shape to become more comfortable over time. A steel shank increases both stability and support for long stretches on our feet, and Vibram's 430 mini-lug sole won't crack and lose durability after a few years like all-rubber soles sometimes do.

Acceptable

A well built boot. Vibram soles. 270 degree welt. Leather insole/footbed. Tongue is gusseted up to the speed hooks. Fits true to Brannock device. The best way to buy these is by going to a store. They have computers and machines to measure your feet for size. And you can try on your size, a half size up or down, and medium or wide. That's the only way to buy the right shoe.

day 2 and already feel great

I was ready for the break-in but they feel pretty decent out of the box. I have had the 877 in the past and they took a couple months to break in. these iron rangers are already feeling great but can i tell they are just going to get more and more comfortable. Wearing them all day as a teacher.

Boot With Style

Really Nice Boot I have all colors, used them every day! but i NOTICE on the end of the sole it becomes really hart and painful on your feet. I was wandering what's going on with my feet but i discover that the boot were causing a extremally pain on my feet. Hope Red Wing let me try this product one more time and let me change my mind.

Good boot

I bought this boot a month ago. The break-in period is a bit tough but once they are broken in, they're a great shoe. I did have to stretch one of the shoes with wise as I ordered one size smaller than normal. Other than that I do recommend them. The price is a little steep, but you do get what you pay for

8084 and 8085

After my initial purchase and satisfaction of my first venture into Red Wings, the Beckman, thought I'd venture out and look into the other Red Wing offerings. Had read many articles about the "iconic" Iron Rangers, so my next purchase were the 8085 CRT's. The color just looks like it can be an everyday boot and can go with anything. Although not as elegant as the Beckman, these are a high quality, sturdy, good looking every day boot. I'm sure they will last me for the rest of my life. They took a little bit of time to break in but not as bad as other reviews I read. Never had any blisters, not hot spots. Initially my feet would be sore and tired because of the weight of the boot and the stiffness of the leather and soles. After a few days, the insole started molding to my foot and I became accustomed to the weight of the shoe. Now, I can wear them all day without any soreness or fatigue. They have become my everyday footwear replacing sneakers. I take my dog for long walks a few times a day in the park and trails. I walk anywhere from 9,000 to 16,000 steps per day and my feet feel great at the end of the day. I recently purchased the black 8084 and alternate between the two. I'm a fan. Love these boots.

Awesome boot.. just had to put my twist on them.

Love this iconic boot but the sole was not what I was looking for. Swapped the mini lugs for a full vibram lug. Now this is how the boot should come!! Or atleast have an option.. I get compliments all the time. Great overall boot.

Excellent!

I've been wearing these boots about 4 to 6 times a week for 2 to 14 hours at a time for the past year and a half, and I couldn't be happier with them! Breaking them in was a breeze, and comfort is exceptional. I've been wearing boots for a living for the past 25 years and can tell when a pair is made with quality in mind. I wouldn't recommend them for the battlefield or the job site, but if you want a good looking comfortable boot for just about anything else, buy yourself a pair of these!

very slippery

Have had my IR's with Vibram lug soles for a few years. Unfortunately, I'm always in fear of slipping and sliding. Bugs me that I need to walk so cautiously in order to be safe. Have had this problem when they were new, and also after wearing them in. I don't understand why RW made these with such beautiful leather and craftsmanship ... but then they neglected basic safety by installing a unworkable sole. I'm disappointed that I cannot use them for work and some other activities as I had originally planned. I spent a good amount for them and now they mostly sit in the closet instead of being used regularly as I had hoped.

Waited way too long to get a pair of these. The reviews about the break-in are accurate, but once they're broken in you'll never want to wear anything else.
