Why We Like The Iron Ranger 6in Boot
The Iron Ranger Boots have been protecting the feet of miners for more than a century, so we feel good about them protecting ours, too. Oil-tanned leather comprises the upper for added protection, while the leather insole conforms to our foot's natural shape to become more comfortable over time. A steel shank increases both stability and support for long stretches on our feet, and Vibram's 430 mini-lug sole won't crack and lose durability after a few years like all-rubber soles sometimes do.

12 years, going strong
I've never been one to write reviews, but as I was spending time oiling my 12 year old 8111s tonight, it dawned on me that I needed to pay some respect to these old boots. I'm trying to find a way to write a review about these without coming off as some weird dude with an emotional attachment to a pair boots, but we should probably just call a spade a spade, eh? I remember in college wearing them during pickup football games at ISU tailgates, and then every single day as I rode my bike to vet school, with my little one in tow in the Burley. They were with me on rainy days in Aarhus and have sailed the gales of Lake Superior in the fall. In veterinary practice, they have worked countless cows and have withstood all the combinations of bodily fluids one could imagine (blood spilling off the OR table onto my boots really adds to the patina). Harsh Minnesota winters and enough salt to rust the rockers of a 1500 haven't slowed them down. While also greatly decreasing their ability to track about fecal material of various unknown animals, their slick soles are a blessing in that they give me a handicap when playing football against my own kiddos, lest I have sufficient traction to show them how it was played in my day. We burn prairies and build decks, chop wood and chase roosters, then shine up the next day and go to church. There will come a day when they will have completed their journey, but at this rate I'm not sure if I'll be the one to see it.

great boot, worth the money, one flaw
I switched to the iron ranger after trying thursday boots and having them break down in months. I am very happy with these except that the lace hooks really do wear right through the tongue. I have even found that the laces themselves wore through the tongue. I bought another pair of these boots because I like them, but I need to work on the laces and tongue before i start wearing them (daily)

Excellent Boots!
This is my third pair Iron Rangers, and I must say this color is the best. Goes well with khakis or jeans. Highly recommend this boot.

Speed hooks a true issue
Have had the Iron Rangers for a year and a half now and the speed hooks have completely worn through the tongue and have left holes in them. Really disappointing for a boot at this price point and reputation. Feels like speed hooks for how little cost they presumably are, are not the thing to be skimping on Otherwise love them, but cannot recommend. Will have to look at different boot brands in the future

Getting better with age
Grabbed a pair for my son 6 years ago on a trip to the US. Wore them non stop for 2 years at college in the UK, during a his gap year and now 2 years into Uni. Had them resolved last year (the original soles had started to wear at the heals). The uppers have held up remarkably well and look better now, I think, than when he got them. Fantastic boot.

Too thin of sole.
Upper is well made but the sole is way too thin. Be alright if you just wore them as a dress shoe. I took them to my local shoe repair after just a few months and had them resoled with a nice thick vibram. Good boot now. Redwing needs to put a harder sole on these boots.

Awesome Boots
I got these boots as a Christmas present and was excited to try them on. I heard from some other friends that they had a pretty tough break-in period, so I was a bit worried about that at first. I ended up breaking them in completely when I was working on a busted watermain for two days, and they held up great despite being soaked through. While I would not recommend breaking them in like that, they've felt great since and I've gone ahead and switched the laces out with leather ones. Would definitely say they are worth their weight.

Great Boot!
This is my 2nd pair & absolutely love these boots. After the break in period, they fit perfect and are extremely comfortable. Had the soles switched out as for my job, the vibram lugs perform much better. Honey soles may not be for everyone but I’m Loving this color combo! Redwing… please make lugs an option!!

Great boots!
Bought the 8111 a few years ago and they are amazing! Break in wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and they are holding up great. One of the best if not the best pair of boots I’ve ever had. So good in fact that I bought a second pair for a different look. Those boots are amazing as well!
