Why We Like The Classic Moc Boot

The Red Wing Heritage Classic Moc Boot was built with two things in mind: the safety and comfort of the workers who wore them. The Traction Tred rubber soles are built with minimal tread in order to help shed mud and dirt, while still maintaining the grip we need for varied job sites. Leather insoles and cork midsoles provide support and comfort, and become more comfortable over time as they mold to our feet. Goodyear welt construction and durable nickel eyelets ensure these boots will stand the test of time.

Not Impressed

Pretty disappointed with these boots. I've always had red wings and this is my first pair of heritage boots. They are 2 months old and the seams are already separating all around the toe box. Not sure they are even fully broken in yet. Pretty upset with these especially for the price tag on them.

Love these boots

I bought my boots from the retail store. Salesman recommended that o went a full size smaller than my normal size and we confirmed via the thermal imaging in the store. I’ve worn these almost everyday for the past 6mos. However, I will say the break in period is serious, but I wasn’t expecting anything different from such a solid boot.

My 3rd pairs of 1907

As I had 6 pairs of RW, I love 1907 the most because I feel it looks cool and very comfortable. Last but not least, its patina is very challenging every day.❤️❤️❤️

3 months later, sizing tips, warning

Background and Use-Case: Farm, mechanic, construction, logging, motorcycling, and lengthy hikes in winter snow or summer heat. Northernmost Midwest. Jk... I used to do that. Now, I work in an office. But I wanted to invest in a good pair of leather boots that could still handle those things on the odd weekend, and I could wear daily otherwise. Sizing: I normally wear 11.5-12 in vans or adidas. Maybe 12 in wolverines. I tried 4 different sizes of the 1907s and landed on a 10.5. The length seemed about right (my toes barely did not touch the end), and the width was great, if not slightly narrow. I only wear these with smartwool hiking socks (their cushioning is minimal, and they are not thick). Break In: 3 months of daily use with lengthy weekend hikes (generally several miles, mostly in snow or sand, and occasionally sidewalks), the boots widened quite a bit. Too much. Honestly, I wish I went a half-size smaller because widened a surprising amount. Perhaps my toes touching would have saved my heels? The heels have broken in too, the leatherboard counter now cups my achilles/heel like a good boot should. Warning: Even though they are broken in, they still destroy my heels. I've never had blisters so large - across the entire back of my heel, anytime I push more than a few miles. It is caused by friction right where the leatherboard counter is stitched. No matter how snug I pull the laces, or skip the top eyelet, there is still a lot of heel lift. I would not care about heel lift if there was not a leather edge digging into my heel with every step. Now, it might be my fault for not wearing socks that are thick enough. But, if that is true, I purchased the wrong boots. I wanted unlined non-waterproof boots so I would not sweat so bad in the summer. I do not want a boot that requires thick socks, and this was my first unlined boot. Attempts to stop blisters: These boots are expensive, and I could not afford to lose my investment. I tried softening the leather with redwing leather conditioner and off brand mink oil, wearing two pairs of socks, or layering inexpensive cloth tape on the affected area. I thought about cutting any leather not stitched down above the leatherboard counter is stitched or sanding it with a fine file. I eventually invested in inserts that lift the heel, so the leatherboard counter issue is not so severe (does not catch as bad), which was a great choice. I also think the soles are too stiff, and this causes my foot to want to lift long before the boot bends, especially in sand or snow. I have spent some time just flexing them with my hands (like a step) trying to loosen up the boots and pinching the heel to try to reshape it. Things that helped: Removing the leather insoles entirely. Recently after purchase, I was miserable in these boots on a hike and was desperate to save my heels. I removed the leather insoles, and this gave my feet a bit more room. The soles are rock hard this way though, so be careful about impact. Barefoot would have been preferrable. Final Thoughts: These are show boots, not work boots - there are better daily work boots. Work boots will have speed hooks (notice all are through-hole eyelets on this model). The sole is much too stiff for daily use even after miles and months of break in. The blisters caused by the leatherboard counter are ridiculous, and even after all this time that has not improved significantly - the skin on my upper heels have darkened and toughened enough. Actual Use Case: I will keep these boots because of the sunk cost. I will continue to wear them to the office, and for motorcycling. If I was getting a true work or hiking boot, I would look for speed hooks, and a softer sole. I have little doubt of the durability of these boots (kicking bonfires did not damage the leather, and I accidentally stabbed them with a metal shovel, and it only left a scratch - I did that with wolverines once and I had wet boots for the rest of winter). My buddy has had a pair of redwings for the last 10 years (not from heritage line). I was hoping these could keep up with those, but they are not for the same application. I have nothing bad to say about redwings, I thought this boot was something it is not.

Best boots I've ever owned

I listened to the advice of friends that said the break-in period was worth the end result, and they were right. For the first couple of weeks after wearing them all day my heels would hurt, but since I wore them everyday and broke them in as quickly as I could they are the most comfortable boots I've ever had.

Wonderful boot

I’m writing this as I’m breaking them in. Fit is snug but will loosen up over time. The quality of the leather is great.

Alpine Portage

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
11.5D

A huge Red Wing fan owning the Becksmiths in all colors, my favorite boot, and a couple pair of Iron Rangers, CRT and Black. Was never previously a fan of Moc-toe boots but had to get a pair of Red Wings in the Alpine Portage, such a beautiful green color. Since they had a black sole, I ordered a pair to see how they look. Was very impressed. Looks better on than in the pictures. As other Red Wings, takes some time to break in but breaks in faster than the Iron Rangers. Same size as my Beckman's, 11.5 D, 1/2 size less than my Nike sneaker size. For comparison, i wear 11.5 EE in Iron Rangers.

Highly recommend.

Bought 1907’s about 3 weeks ago. Break in is no joke. Wear them around or house or short trips to town for the first week. After the first week they started feeling better and now 3 weeks in I’m wearing them everyday. Feel great. The copper rough and tough was great visually for me, but they’re actually tough too. I’ve already accidentally scuffed them a few times, and it sort of just blends in with character. Don’t recommend them for marathons or hiking, but for normal daily work or just casual wear, I highly recommend. Sizing- get whatever feels snug, not tight enough to make your toes go numb. I’m almost just over 10.5 on the Brannock. I got a 10 at the recommendation from the store. Should’ve done a 10.5. The 10’s work but I prefer a looser fit. Will do a 10.5 next time- yes I like them enough I’ll get another pair eventually to baby for only weekend wear.

Weirdly comfortable right out of the box

Bought these as factory seconds and for some reason they’re the most comfortable moc toes I have. My 8875s and 8849s both have a ridge in the insole under the middle of my foot where the seam tucks under the arch. Not too bad but noticeable. These boots don’t have that ridge at all and I’m loving them. Feel great and look great too.
