Why We Like The Red Wing Heritage Beckman Boot

Red Wing Heritage constructs luxury that lasts, and their Beckman Boot is here to testify. The leather uppers mold to our feet, the waxed laces lock in our fit, and the Goodyear Leather Welt construction invites us to resole again and again, while all three fight off inclement weather to keep our feet dry and our look sharp on our commutes. And as we stroll from the street to the slick floors of the office lobby, the outsole's crushed cord material prevents slips from slowing us down.

Great Boot - Quality Issues

Finally bought by first pair of Heritage boots after years of wearing Red Wing work boots. They are a beautiful boot for the office and everyday wear. On day one of wearing and the breakin does not seem worrisome. But I am a bit disappointed in the quality of the boot or should i say 1 of the boots. The right boot is a bit darker (which i dont mind) and it also has much more creasing than the left (again not a big deal just worth noting). The big issue that worries me in the scratching from the speed hooks. The right tongue already scratched and worn where these hooks are hitting. While the left boot looks fine and looks like normal markings. This tells me it has to be a quality control issue and not the boot design. Disappointing for a boot with a price tag like this.

Beckman excalibur cigar

I just bought this redwing and been using it for just 1 hour walk and all the tongue where the speed hook located scuff and peel. Really disappointed with the speed hook. But this new beckman fit is amazing and the leather is softer. Hope redwing can address the speed hook and solve the issue.

Black Cherry - Day 1 - Oh No!

My second pair of Redwings. Just bought these today on 24Jan25, the same issue all to e other 1 star reviews are having with the tongue and rivets happened to mine. I’ve worn them a total of maybe 4 hours and sad panda. I wish there was some type of boot polish they had to help hid it a little. Not sure what can be done, but I am sad. These are amazing and feel amazing. Hopefully Redwing will help me!

New Beckman, same amazing quality

Last fall I returned from a trip to Red Wing, not empty handed, but now the owner of this new Beckman in cigar leather. I add these to my earlier Black Cherry Beckman boots. There is a slight change in the last featuring a slimmer toe design. I always use a Red Wing insole to keep my feet happy and these new Beckman boots have enough room for feet, insole, socks. I expect “many happy steps” over many years with these classy shoes.

My first Red Wings

I found the black cherry color in a local store to me. Tried on several RWs, including Blacksmiths, Roughneck, and Iron Rangers. I liked the look of all of them, but the leather midsole in these was immediately more comfortable. I'm coming from a more basic goodyear-welted boot and I really appreciated the higher level of craftsmanship and the natural materials in the RWs, especially the veg tan insole. Is it perfect? No, but I wouldn't expect that from a mostly handmade boot. After wearing for 8 hours at work the first day (I work in a dealership, so I do a lot of walking) I'm very impressed. Definitely some soreness around the ankles, which I expected due to the leather being a little stiff yet. But the grip was good even on smooth concrete and I'm excited to fully break these in. Got lots of compliments on the black cherry leather as well due to its depth of color.

Still wearing my Beckman’s from 9 Years Ago

I understand this is a reissue of the Beckman with some minor changes-most notably the speed hooks-but I have the originals from the mid-2010’s. They’re a fantastic boot. I had the lug sole removed after purchase and I’ve had them resoled in thicker JR soles ever since. The leather seems to be of good quality, the hardware hasn’t failed in almost a decade, and I always get compliments on the color. I have wide hobbit feet so the larger toe box is great! I see a lot of feedback related to the rear of the speed hooks scratching the tongue-an issue I admittedly don’t have-but if that’s the only issue, I still say money well spent. For those with the tongue scratching I recommend using some needle nose or small hammer to gently flatten the edges of the rear gromet. That worked with a a few pairs of boots I had in the service. Also-it’s the tongue. Hit it with some pigmented cream, move out, and draw fire.

Beware Beckman Speed Hook, Cigar and Black Cherry

I recently purchased the Beckman in all 3 colors. The previous reviews are accurate: the speed hook rivets are not properly installed. The attached photo shows the Cigar after one day of indoor use. Be prepared to either take them to a cobbler or buy the tool to set them properly. You'll need some boot polish, too, to cover up the damage. The black ones do not appear to have this issue. Other than that, the toe box is sleeker than the prior version of the Beckman so be prepared for less wiggle room for your toes. I do expect them to loosen up with wear. The mini Vibram lugs have been replaced with an octopus suction cup design, it seems to be okay but I think there will be less traction for Winter weather.

Solid!

Was suprised just how solid of a boot this is. Nice and heavy. Super thick leather. Nice but tough. I dig the lower toe box. I’m in between sizes and I think if I had gotten the blacksmith in my larger size the toe box would have been too much but with the beckman it’s perfect. Not worried about the speed hooks. My iron rangers are 5 years old and the tounge is fine

Owned these boots 12 years. Still awesome

I bought the cherry Beckman, then bought the black ones, both about 12 years ago. I bought them because I wanted quality hand crafted footwear made in America. The boots only get better with age. I’m so impressed with the quality and workmanship of the Red Wing product. I highly recommend adding this boot to your wardrobe, and ideally 2 pair. The longevity and utility of this boot easily justifies the price in my opinion.

Great Boots, Lower profile toe than IR

I wanted something more dressy than my Iron Rangers, with a lower toe profile. These boots hit the mark. The black cherry looks great and, in my opinion, better in person than in the pictures on the site. I've gotten quite a few compliments. Very versatile color. I ordered true to size (1/2 size larger than my Iron Rangers) and they seem to fit well. I'm not having issues (mentioned in other reviews) with the speed hooks damaging the tongue. There are some light scuffs on the tongue that are to be expected, but not causing excessive damage or wear. The back of my speed hooks feel relatively smooth to the touch. I like Red Wing heritage boots, but I'm not against purchasing another brand. I looked at other similarly designed options from other brands, but did not find another USA Made boot of this quality at this price point.
