The Rene Herse Umtanum Ridge TC is built for the kind of bikepacking route that refuses to commit to a surface: the ones that start on gravel, drop into loose dirt, and then spit us back onto pavement for the last twenty miles into town. Large, widely spaced knobs deliver grip where the trail gets loose, while the noise-cancelling tread keeps the tire rolling quietly when the surface firms up, so the same tire that handles the rough stuff doesn't punish the road miles. Tubeless-compatible and made in Japan, it fits hookless and hooked rims with an internal width of 19 to 30 millimeters.
