Why We Like The Rocky Mountain Altitude A30 Deore Mountain Bike
Designed to shred big mountain descents while still maintaining the ability to climb back up and do it all over again, Rocky Mountain is back with a new high-flying version of their beloved Altitude. The new Altitude sports a new LC2R suspension system with a low-slung pivot and a counter-rotating link design to provide a lower center of gravity and increased traction on heavy-hitting terrain. Rocky Mountain didn't stop there, implementing size-specific tunes for an optimal ride feel for all sizes and enhanced stiffness through oversized bearings and a one-piece rear triangle. 160mm of LC2R suspension throws down maximum traction and performance on the most aggressive trails while maintaining the ability to climb back to the top efficiently. Rocky's revised Ride-4 adjustment system simplifies the adjustment range over their previous Ride-9 adjustment system and offers us a broader range of adjustments for when we need slacker and lower geometry. The Altitude is MX-compatible, giving us the option to run a 27.5-inch rear wheel by using the flip chip on the rear shock link, and additional fine-tuning of the fit is complimented by the included reach adjust headset cup that offers us a 3-position reach adjustment so we can dial in our fit. The Altitude is topped off with Rocky Mountain's new Penalty Box 2.0 internal frame storage, allowing us to store a spare tube, snacks, and valuables inside the bike's downtube. Finally, integrated protectors at the downtube, chainstay, and seat stay keep our frame protected, while a shuttle guard cushions our bike when on a tailgate pad.
The Alloy 30 Shimano build of the Altitude is a great value, entry-level build for performance out on the trails. Rocky Mountain's FORM alloy frame starts the build, boasting an impressively durable and stout aluminum frame to take on the rowdiest of riding. Shifting performance is handled by the reliable Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain, giving us a wide-range, 12-speed drivetrain for budget-oriented riders. Shimano MT6120 4-piston brakes give us big mountain power in a simple package, and aggressive Maxxis tires throw down massive traction through berms. Rock gardens and sending it off small drops are no match for the RockShox Zeb Select RC fork, giving us 170mm of tunable, trail-ready performance. At the same time, the Fox Float X Performance rear shock maintains optimal performance no matter the terrain, thanks to its custom tune and compression adjustments.
*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level, If you have any questions, reach out to a Gearhead by chatting online or calling 1-888-276-7130.
