Why We Like The Rocky Mountain Element C50 XT Mountain Bike
For the days we still want to cover some distance but need a little more travel for side hits and technical descents, the Rocky Mountain Element puts us in our element. Combining a lightweight design, a short-travel platform, and exceptionally capable geometry, the Element brews the perfect storm of an XC bike. A slimmer top tube and upgraded pivot design take the Element's looks and capability to the next level, giving us a new frame profile and making for a more durable design. 120mm of Smoothlink suspension crushes technical climbs while remaining capable all over the mountain, and the lightweight platform combined with 29-inch wheels helps us skip over trail obstacles and maintain our speed. Rocky Mountain slapped the Element with size-specific tunes for optimal performance across all sizes, and revised suspension kinematics with a more linear progression. Rocky Mountain's Ride-4 adjustment system gives us four different settings that allow us to adjust our frame geometry to our riding style and the terrain for more capability. The Element has exceptionally slack frame geometry for a cross-country bike and sports a 65.5-degree headtube angle in the neutral setting to give us enhanced capability and confidence on the most aggressive XC courses. The long reach and wheelbase also help keep us composed in steep, aggressive terrain, and the 76.5-degree seat tube angle makes for a very efficient pedaling position for climbing. The Element is our choice for tight singletrack and flow trails.
The C50 XT build of the Rocky Mountain Element equips us with reliable, proven components for a steal of a price. Rocky Mountain's Smoothwall carbon frame offers a durable and lightweight chassis to shred on. Next, Shimano's proven XT 12-speed drivetrain ensures smooth and precise shifting. This builds rolls on WTB ST Light i27 TCS 2.0 rims laced with a Race Face Trace rear hub for exceptional performance and engagement at an entry-level price. The Fox Float 34 Performance fork with 130mm of travel rides high in its travel but soaks up any bigger hits on the way down, while the Fox Float Performance rear shock combines a light overall weight with a super supportive and tunable air spring for all-mountain performance.

5 ride review
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Had this bike for just over a week. 5 ride review. ts suspension is much easier to set up than previous bike (Tallboy 4) but not as refined. Assuming its going to be a lot easier to keep running because its less complex. Parts on bike are all decent and close to what I would pick on custom build (Shimano/Fox). 170mm cranks also taking time to adjust to but 100% know its helping with pedal strikes. Been using 175s for 30+ years. Mine came with DT Swiss 370 rear hub. Engagement not good but can be upgraded. It also doesn't seem to "roll' great but maybe this improves as hub breaks in. SLX brakes took much longer to bed than expected too. To point I yanked pads assuming possibly resin. They were metal but had strange, black coating. Cleaned that and brakes worked much better. I got the black one. If it glances at dirt it looks dirty. Kinda regret not going white. This frame does flex a lot more than the Tallboy too but that's not all bad. I am very happy with purchase.
