Almost the best boots ever made! Almost..

These boots are amazing, I was so happy and excited. The build quality/material quality is second to none that I have tried with one Achilles Heel (Pun intended). On maybe my 7th or 8th time wearing them, I noticed the boot felt loose. When I had a chance to look I found the thin orange string I am assuming is supposed to pull your heel into the back cup pulled out. By the way it is not frayed I assume it pull out. The real weakness with this poor design, there is no way to fix it or make these lace able. If I were on a long excursion I would have had to cut a hole as they are pretty much not wearable without that thin string and the tiny plastic clip the lace into. So I would not recommend them as they have a major weakness and no redundancy. I am glad I was at the US Curling Championships and not snowshoeing or a long pack trip. 😢

I had relied on my Zamberlain boots for a decade to keep my feet dry, warm and comfortable when backpacking where I knew the conditions would be a challenge. They were heavy but superbly reliable. I bought theses Salewa boots based on a friends endorsement. They turned out to be a wonderful surprise. Since these boots were not locally available I followed Salewa’s sizing directions closely, upsized by 1/2 and they fit perfectly. They are 1/3 the weight of my Zamberlain boots yet fit my needs perfectly. Cold, wet, rocky trails have been no problem. My new boots exceeded my expectations. Turned out to be a great decision. I’ll miss my old boots because they reminded me of past great trips but not for long.

These are my 3rd pair of Salewa, they have always been comfortable and durable. The waterproofing on my last pair did fail on me after 6 months of light use, will see how these hold up.

Great Winter Boots

Very comfortable boots. Warm and waterproof in the snow. Worn them for hiking in mud, snow, and very cold and windy conditions. Very grippy sole. Did I mention that they are insanely comfortable. My normal size 13 fits perfectly with thick wool hiking socks. My favorite boots now.

CO Winter 14er

Bought these for some Winter CO 14er summit attempts. First use was on Quandry on New Years Day. I traditionally use alpine trail runners and have not purchased a pair of boots for almost a decade at this point. With a high of 5 degrees, windchill in the negatives, and a couple inches of fresh snow, these boots were absolutely bomb proof. Sleek profile that act much beefier than they look. If you are looking for a pair of winter boots that are not too bulky but still get the job done, get these!
