Why We Like The Salomon Elixir Activ Mid GTX Boot
When we are scrambling over rocks, going off the beaten path, and hiking in less-than-optimal weather, no ordinary hiking shoes are going to cut it. The Salomon Elixir Activ Mid GTX Boot is a mid-height waterproof boot ready for off-trail adventures and fire road walks. This boot features a durable upper that breathes well and has rock protection to keep us protected on the trails. A GORE-TEX waterproof membrane keeps our feet dry while remaining breathable enough to go on long hikes in, and the 6-inch height of the boot adds ankle stabilization and protection. The padded tongue and collar add extra comfort and provide a snug fit, while the 5mm lugs and reverse camber-shaped sole outsole down massive amounts of traction and provide a smoother stride.

Exactly what I was looking for!
I was basically looking for a walking shoe (easy terrain) with a high ankle. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and love walking. My feet and hips were getting sore from the unnatural gait of walking with a winter boot on. The boots are heavy and your ankle doesn’t flex properly. So I was wearing my Solomon running shoes but my feet were getting wet from kicking up loose snow and it going down inside the ankles and through the fabric. Ordered these and haven’t looked back! Extremely comfortable and they seem to actually promote proper posture and walking gait. I honestly feel like walking is easier in these shoes. I can go for miles! Bonus’- Waterproof and the higher ankle stops my feet from getting wet. Room for a thicker sock. Only con is that I have a narrower ankle and I still have not figured out how to stop heel slippage. I will keep working on it. Could be user error Note. I had to rate durability of product. Haven’t owned long enough. This is based off of other Salomon products I’ve owned

Very comfortable!
These boots didn't need any breaking in and were comfortable from the first time wearing them. They keep my feet dry and are very supportive for my ankles. I gave a 4 stars because the only downside for me is that the tongue is attached inside, making them a bit tight over the top of the foot when putting them on. This limits the thickness of the socks that I can wear, so I will not be able to wear these boots in colder weather.

Fit is different from other salomon styles.
This style does not fit my foot the same way all my other Salomons do. Toe box is considerably wider, arch support feels lower, but that may be the effect of the wider/deeper toe. Shoe feels quite warm, which will likely be welcome during winter months. Unsure about durability as I've only worn once.

(3-day backcountry) – Comfy, Grippy, and Dry!
Just took these awesome new hiking shoes on a 3-day backcountry camping trip, and they were fantastic! The grip was solid on dry, uphill trails, and they kept my feet dry when crossing small creeks. The upper lock for the laces is genius—it keeps them snug right around the ankle. Only downside is the laces tend to come undone a little too easily; however, this is always my issue whenever wearing sneakers/hiking shoes. // Overall, these shoes were a great choice. Plus! -no break-in time needed; I wore them straight out of the box on my hike!

Too wide causing blisters
I’ve worn the speed cross for 10 years trail running. I have size 5-6 narrow feet. I figured the Salomon hikers would too be a narrow good fit. I slid inside of the shoe causing blisters on the top middle and back of my foot. The upper cuff bruised my Achilles. This shoe fits like a hoka which also was very wide. The sole did not hold up on rocky terrain. Expensive bummer test run for Teton terrain.

Comfortable
I purchased these several weeks ago, and they are roomy for my toes which is wonderful since I had foot surgery. I can wear these with no discomfort.

Cute but no grip
I tested these shoes out on a dry rocky trail in Southern California hoping they could serve as a lighterweight option to my Quest 4s. But as I navigated various elevation changes with loose gravel and dirt the grip wasn't strong enough and I slipped multiple times and even fell once. Overall the shoes are comfortable and I initially liked them, but with the lack of grip, I wouldn't recommend them especially if you're in wet conditions or unsure of your footing. Also, I found the tongue of the shoe a bit hard to close, and depending on the weather, it may be challenging to keep your feet dry. Considering how expensive these are it's a bummer they're more like a walking shoe.

Love these shoes
I was looking for something really cushioned and these do the job amazingly. They have helped me recover from tendon issues and get walking again. Grip surprisingly good and the gtx lining has held up in light rain and mud/puddles. Comfortable toe box with plenty of room and a narrowing middle/angle ankle sections which keeps my foot in securely. Love them.

Slippery when wet
These boots are very comfortable and when dry they have exceptional grip on rock slabs. I was lured into a false sense of security when I discovered they are extremely slippery when wet. The other day, on a mountain trail with a lot of scrambling I was slipping almost constantly and fell several times. I will only use these on dirt paths from now on.
