Why We Like The Salomon Elixir Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Boot

Built for comfort over long distances, the Salomon Elixir Mid GORE-TEX Hiking Boot is just what the doctor ordered for max cushion fans. This premium hiking boot is bursting with cushion—from the padded ankle collar and tongue down to the energyFOAM midsoles that soften our steps and provide bouncy energy return. Salomon's most cushioned hiking boot also features an active chassis for agility on fast hikes and stability on those tough trails that tax our feet and ankles. New for 2023, this lightweight hiking boot also features GORE-TEX waterproofing for soggy conditions and All Terrain Contragrip for secure footing on mixed terrain.

Great boot, if you know what you want

I'm in my mid-sixties, fit, an active hiker, but have some disc compression. My spine doesn't have the spring it had in my 20's & 30's when I was doing lots of mountaineering, climbing, and off trail backpacking. I specifically wanted a boot with lots of cushioning and shock absorption, but still relatively light, and that provided moderate ankle support, and waterproof. This fits the bill perfectly. Incredibly comfortable right out of the box and the rocker sole provides nice forward momentum. Traction is good and ankle support is enough for light backpacking. I've hiked on some steep rocky and muddy terrain, and they feel very secure. I can't attest to the waterproofness yet, but it will be tested in Alaska this coming summer. They seem well constructed. So if you want these things from a boot, this is a good choice. If you've looking for something for class 3-4 rock, and heavy off trail technical backpacking, this boot is not designed for that, but with so many types of boots to choose from - you can have multiple pairs.
