"When I’m carrying a heavy pack over long distances, I need a boot that keeps me stable and supported. The Quest 4 GORE-TEX does exactly that, with a chassis that wraps my foot for extra security and a high-cut design that protects my ankles on rugged trails. The waterproof GORE-TEX membrane keeps my feet dry through stream crossings and unexpected storms, while the grippy outsole gives me confidence on technical terrain."
When our adventures take us into remote landscapes, the Quest 4 GORE-TEX keeps us moving forward with confidence. Whether we’re hauling a heavy pack on a multi-day trek or navigating rocky alpine trails, this boot provides the support and stability we need to go farther. The updated chassis system targets key pressure points for a locked-in feel, reducing fatigue so we can stay strong through every step of the journey.
Designed for tough terrain, the deep-lugged outsole grips securely to wet rocks, loose dirt, and rugged trails. Comfortable, but fell apart!
I am a life long Salomon customer. These specific boots were just as comfortable as all of the pairs I’ve used in the past. At first I was impressed by the look and feel. After a few hikes I noticed the outsides of the outsole were starting to peal away. These parts seemed to be set in a different mold than the rest of the outsole. It wasn’t just a couple hikes later that the entire outsole started chunking off. I have owned pairs of Salomon boots before and put hundreds of miles on them without this happening. What has happened to the production of these boots? I hope they fix this massive failure in the outsole. I had no choice but to continue to use these boots, because I used them for work. The vamp and upper stayed in good shape and was definitely waterproof. The outsole let water in as soon as it fell apart.

I Found The Right Fit
I purchased a similar Salomon boot a year ago. Found out that the European sizes are about ½ size smaller. My first boot became too tight after a full day. I lost a toenail from the friction. It was a hard choice to donate that boot pair to charity, but I’m sure it made someone happy. I purchased this new boot at one full size over my US size. Now there is room for swelling and breathing with thick socks. My toes are very happy now.

Great boot
I've been wearing quest 4d for over 5 years. I haven't found a boot that are as comfortable as these yet. I usually wear these 14 hours plus a day, wear them until the bottoms are smooth

Feels great right out of the box!
Bought these to transition away from trail running shoes for hiking. They felt really good right out of the box. Wore them around town to see if there would be any break in before I used them hiking. There was just a small bit of rub on the top of my toes, but not bad. I usually buy wide width shoes and boots, but the toe box on these has plenty of room.

Great shoes
Amazing in cold hiking or even in snow hiking. Walking in the city too as well. Even for construction worker can wear it.

Wanted to give it a 5 but…
My biggest frustration/disappointment continues to be the rubber moulding on the toe box. This is my 6th pair of Salomon’s but my first review. I used this pair on a 400km trek through Patagonia the past month. Tread held up well but the rubber molding on both toe boxes keeps coming off which has been a consistent problem with my Solomon boots (although for some reason I don’t have the same problem with my Ultra GTXs). I would love if one time I had to replace my Salomon boots because the tread was worn rather than because I could no longer glue the rubber mouldings on the front of the boot. These boots are very stable. I appreciate the lace locks and when secured, the compression gives more rigidity and has saved me quite a few rolled ankles as I was typically carrying 20k (40-45lbs). Had multiple consecutive rain/snow days and the waterproof Gore-Tex was a champ. Synthetic material is very flexible, durable and quick to break in. I also lean towards Salomon given it is a medium volume boot which is great for my narrow feet but there is ample room in the toe boxes for ascents/descents. I always swap out their Ortholite insole for Superfeet but their insole seems to be improved from prior models. I recently bought a pair of La Sportiva Aequilibrium for a hiking and mountaineering trip this past summer and while not as comfortable as my Salomon I was more impressed with the quality of the overall boot for a comparable price. From what was once a Salomon only closet I have now added two pairs of La Sportiva beside my four Salomons!

Comfortable right out of the box
I upgraded my old Quest 2 boots with Quest 4. They are comfortable right out of the box and breaking in nicely. Super durable just like the Quest 2 and give a lot of ankle support
