Why We Like The Sense Ride 4 Trail Running Shoe
To feel the trail in a whole new way, we lace into the Sense Ride 4 Trail Running Shoe. The energetic foam helps mute the vibrations of our strikes to reduce energy leaks, while a stabilizing midsole film smooths our stride, giving us a distraction-free ride. As we bound atop rocks and roots, the midfoot-hugging ghillie lacing and snug inner sleeve support our feet yet still lets them flex naturally, injecting confidence and speed into our transitions.

Not Durable - Rocker over exaggerated
First off I want to start by saying I love Salomon footwear. The 'last' they utilize has always made them a great fit (narrow at heel and medium up front) with great heel lock for my feet. The Another major change, which seems to be the fad, is an exaggerated rocker. It is too much and uncomfortable. Sense Ride series has always been my got to trail runner. But...they've changed. The Sense Ride 5 is not built to endure. Their previous models have lasted longer then the recommended retirement age. The 5s on the other hand, has lasted half the time of its predecessors. Even after 100kms I was surprised by how much wear and tear. The midsole was loosing its rebound. After 200 km they are retired. They are beat up ready for landscaping the backyard. The Sense Ride has always been my chosen trail runner for years. I need a new pair asap for a race. Now I need to choose another brand like Adidas. I would love to see their SR 6 go back to quality and not just fashion.

Comfortable general purpose trainer
I bought these because of the drop between heel and toe, I suffer from heel pain. Great fit and very comfortable. If you don't pick a daft colour sensibly priced as well. Only negative is how easily water goes through the upper.

Glad I found these. Great for some heel sufferers.
I have Haglund's Deformity on both heels and no matter how comfortable a cleat is, a hard heel counter ruins my game play (ultimate disc). These shoes are the first ones in a while that do not aggravate my heels during an intense game and I feel comfortable in them as well. Just bought my 3rd pair so I have don't have to worry about model changes for a while.

Much softer than previous generations
Recreational runner, 20-30 miles / week. Mostly ran on the previous Sense Ride generations (3 and 4) and liked them for their last, fit, and firmness of the sole. I had hoped this iteration would keep its characteristics and maybe just be a bit improved. Unfortunately, this is not the case. It seems the sole has been changed completely compared to the older versions, in particular the forefoot firmness is tuned to be much softer than before. The shoe feels more like a road runner with the weight penalty of a trail shoe. Furthermore, the durability of the sole seems to have decreased. After about 100 miles the foam feels thinner, and I notice pebbles under my forefoot more. This is in stark contrast to the previous generations, where I would first see the uppers rip and fall apart before the sole started to deteriorate. I doubt, I'll get the same mileage out of this shoe compared to its older brethren.

A fan of the Sense Ride since V2
I've had two versions (V2 and V3) that I have used for a mix of hiking, road to trail, and trail running. They are incredibly durable beyond 500miles, reliable in all weather and have a confident bite on all surfaces. The fit for me is true but I size up a half size so I can use them for longer runs and have room for foot swelling.

My Go-To Shoe
I have owned several pairs of these, across all the generations of this shoe’s production. And it has become my go-to trainer. I use it for middle distance (up to about the half marathon in length) runs on varying trail terrain, many with an asphalt start or finish. Great surface “feel”, with the right amount of cushion and energy return, plus the Salomon quick-lace system is second to none. It NEVER comes loose, and is simply the best technical innovation I think any shoe company has come up with to advance trail running footwear.

Original soles suck.move too much inside the shoe
The original soles that came with the shoe move too much inside the shoe and end up slipping backwards. Have to move them back to a normal position each time I use the shoe. Anyone have recommendations on soles?
