Why We Like The X Ultra 4 GTX Wide Hiking Shoe
Salomon's signature line of trail shoes returns with powerful upgrades, and this version is built to fit hikers and runners with wider feet. The new chassis protects ankle articulations on the outer foot, providing extra stability without limiting mobility, so we feel even more confident when navigating technical terrain. The Contagrip MA rubber sole has tire-like lugs that provide us with improved traction on a wide variety of surfaces. To make these shoes the ultimate trail companion, Salomon added GORE-TEX waterproofing to keep feet dry from the outside and inside.

the right side of the shoe has started to peeling
I really like Salomon shoes. They're comfortable and fit my feet well. However, with this particular model, I've been using it for almost a year, and the right side of the shoe has started to peel a little. Now it's peeling even more, to the point where rainwater is getting inside the shoe. The other models I've used haven't peeled this easily.

Great fitting shoe, perfect fit for a wide foot. I just wish there was more options for colors when it comes to wide shoes.

Speedcross 4
The shoes have held out very well.I have got very high traction out of them.The traction was great until just recent.But of course they are now worn out. I highly recommend these shoes.

I should've trusted the low reviews
I'll start with the good They look pretty good on the feet, they're waterproof, they're wide toed. The bad A lot if bad with this shoe and it all stems from the construction. I wore these shoes less than 15 times, just casual walking, didnt even get a chance to take them hiking and they started tearing at the toe box. parts of the shoe were separating and the goretex material is very stiff. Ocassionally the shoe would crease in such a way that it would stab into my foot, very uncomfortable but also the creasing caused a hole to form in the shoe. Thankfully I was able to use the warranty, but overall disappointed with the shoe. I really wish Salomon had more wide shoes available. I love the salomon brand so i'll continue to buy other products, just avoid this shoe and probably most goretex shoes,

Dissapointed
The X Ultra 4 has been a big disappointment. I have over 20 miles on these shoes and they are still hurting the tops of my feet. What a waste of money. I previously purchased the X Ultra 3 shoes and they were, hands down, the best pair of shoes I have ever owned. I rarely write reviews, but I just want to warn prospective buyers. Don't waste your hard earned money as I have! Salomon, why on earth did you abandon the X Ultra 3 Shoe? It was perfect. I wanted to like these shoes, I really did. Sincerely, Sad in Ohio

Very uncomfortable
I am really disappointed. I have had 4 pairs of X Ultras in the past and can't fault them. Having quite a broad forefoot, I decided to try a pair of the wide fit. The uppers seem to be made of a different material which is not very flexible. As a result, a fold developed after a couple of outings which dug into the lateral part of the upper foot in the region of the metatarsal heads. I have persevered for 6 months in the expectation that things will soften up but, if anything, the shoes have become more painful to the point where I cannot wear them. I would not recommend them.

A great shoe
An excellent service from Salomon. A water proof comfortable shoe that is easy to wear with an excellent secure fit. I use on a daily basis on a mix of surfaces. This is my third pair of X ultra 4 gore-tex shoes.

The best wide shoes on the market!
Bought these shoes awhile back and they are one of the best wide shoes on the market. Comfortable walking and hiking in these for hours. Once you break them in they fell like slippers.
