Why We Like The Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 Wide Trail Running Shoe
Built for stability and foot protection, the Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 trail running shoe is a perennial best-seller for those of us who take on tough trails and conquer them. The advanced 3D chassis adds stability and midfoot support while the durable mesh uppers and reinforced toe cap provide all-around protection for our feet. We like the Quicklace system for a snug and supportive fit that also eliminates annoying stops to re-tie or double-knot our laces. The XA Pro is designed to be a tough trail running shoe, but it also has crossover appeal for hikers, too, thanks to its support and protection.
This is the wide version for those of us who want more room in the forefoot and toe box.

Jogging Since 1971
Began jogging before any such shoes were on the market... gradually then tried many brands.... now I am jogging-running-walking (repeat) on desert trails of sand and rock and cactus. These shoes hold up under demanding conditions and support my life-long effort as a casual but persistent exercise freak. I do highly recommend them.

a great shoe for wide feet
I have trouble finding shoes, because my foot is both wide and tall given the length of my foot. These shoes are one of the few that fit well. I used a prior pair as my approach shoe; very durable as well.

wide-fit looks like 2E width only
I bought the 8.5 wide-fit gore-tex model online. However my wide feet have 4E width and the shoes were still too narrow for me. I also noticed that the new shoes were very very stiff, I am not sure if these would 'soften' with more use. I went to a store to try bigger sizes, wide-fit sizes 9 and 9.5 were still too narrow for my feet. I had to return the shoes. These wide-fit shoes may be more appropriate for those with 2E width feet.

Great Long Last Thru Hiking Trail Runner
Over the last few years these have been great trail runners that I have used on my thru hikes of the AT, BMT, the Pinhoti Trail, and the Colorado Trail. I just restocked 3 more pairs for doing a thru hike of the Continental Divide Trail in 2025. I love them, but have to use the wide model.

Being using the XA pro wide for many years. Comfy, good toe box. Easy lacing system.

Toe Box Too Narrow
Purchased two of these (from REI) for trail running on challenging hills and while they has excellent traction and heel support on mud and loose gravel, my toes got sore after running 4 miles. I loosened them as wide as possible but didn’t help. Especially on downhills. So now I only use them for hiking. And I still get sore feet. Hope you fix it.

Wide NOT Wide
I ordered the same shoe to replace my worn out one. I ordered a Wide shoe just like my previous Salomon shoe. This shoe did not seem wide as both shoes caused painful pressure on both big toes, to the point I can't wear it. I reverted back to the old worn shoes and there was no problem. The new shoes should NOT have been classified as Wide. Not happy at all.

Quality has gone downhill
These shoes used to be better made. They are not of the same quality as the last two pairs I purchased.

Excellent shoe for backpacking in Yosemite
Backpacked over 30 miles in Yosemite, from Cloud Rest to Half Dome. An excellent shoe. I ordered one size larger for my foot to swell during hiking. No foot pain or blisters. Shoes felt great!
